I constantly see zoomers say things like “I don’t care if China has my data, it’s not like Zuckerberg having it is any better” and it really has nothing to do with your “data.” The data isn’t the valuable thing! The algorithm capable of quickly influencing mass public opinion is!
Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, etc etc. are at least theoretically subject to US jurisdiction, oversight, and laws in a way that TikTok just isn’t. They aren’t *better* per se, but there’s much more of an accountability to the American public.
