Sabina Park 1999, was the scene of one of the greatest comeback innings ever, 213, by @BrianLara (preceding THAT 153*).

There are inns that retrospectively look insignificant, but at the time caused crucial momentum shifts.

Nightwatchman Pedro Collins’ 10* is 1 such inns.

1/13 WI & captain Lara entered the 2nd Test in total disarray; they had lost 5-0 in SA, Lara had scored 310 runs in 10 inns & disappointed in his showdown with Donald.

The 1st Test in Trinidad had seen WI all out for their (then) lowest Test score (51) in a 312 run loss to Aus.

A cursory glance shows 34 Tests, fetching 139 wickets @ an avg of 24.7 - impressive figures, but figures that without context do no justice to Pakistan’s 1st cricket immortal, Fazal Mahmood.

@CricVestigate aims to highlight Fazal’s enormous impact on Pakistan cricket.

[1 of 32] Fazal grew up in pre partition Lahore; and aged 17 was selected to play in the Ranji Trophy in 1944. His talent was such that he was selected for India’s tour to Aus in 1947/48, but after partition, decided he couldn’t go and took a job as a policeman, posted in Hangu.

Of the COMPLETED careers with minimum 2000 Test runs, only Bradman has a superior average to Graeme Pollock.

He was voted as South Africa's cricketer of the 20th century.

Brief look at why he may still remain the greatest batsman @OfficialCSA ever produced.

@7polly7 [1 of 20] Pollock made his First Class (FC) debut in the year (1960) he turned 16. He was run out for 54; and continued to make runs consistently, including a 60 out of 134 in the penultimate match, before his maiden FC century in the last game of the season to win by 4 wickets.

Hidden by the sheer class and consistency of @MahelaJay and @KumarSanga2, @CricVestigate spotlights the achievements of @TilanSam, in one of the most unusual, tenacious and under-appreciated careers.

Facing a host of different challenges, Samaraweera quietly excelled.

[1 of 17] Image Samara was a prolific bat as a schoolboy, but at FC level didn't get to bat in the top 6. Off-spin became his main suit; so much so that his ODI debut in 1998 was as a bowler listed at No.10! He played 6 ODIs in the next 3 months & even won MoM vs Eng @scg with 3 wkts.

Recent discussions on Asia XI took us to @BCCI's Gupte's 9-for in Kanpur 1958, which inevitably led to writing about @windiescricket's triumphant series where for the first time ever a West Indian pace bowler took 25+ wickets in a Test series.

In fact, there were two.

[1 of 27] West Indies tour of India (& Pakistan) in 1958/59 was before our time. In the absence of extended highlights, we will string together some anecdotes and stats from our library.

This was the first Test series since 1939 without any of the famous three Ws in the squad.

What is the most influential yet underrated sub-100 Test innings?

Bruce Lee once said "The successful warrior is the average man, with laser-like focus".

We pick @nassercricket's 94 v SA in the decisive 5th Test at Headingley 1998: an innings of laser-like focus.

[1 of 21] Why was it so influential?

@ECB_cricket in the 1990s had some talented players and moments of success; but often found themselves outgunned by opposition champions. Going into the 1998 series v SA, they hadn't won a 5+ Test series since the 1986-87 Ashes (P13 L11 D2).

Our previous piece's discussion on rare MoM awards @MCG in losing causes led us to posting about one of the most memorable Test bowling performances ever seen on Australian soil.

@TheRealPCB's legendary @wasimakramlive at MCG in 1990 (~overshadowed by WC win 2yrs later).

[1/20] Imran elected to field against a batting lineup in excellent form. Since the start of the triumphant 89 Ashes series, 5 of Aus' top 6 played in all 9 Tests, collectively scoring over 4k runs at an avg of 70+.

Wasim started with a barrage of teasing outswingers to Taylor.
