So, I analyzed the data & compared Solana to Arbitrum: The first things I noticed:

1. Solana's marketcap is 13x larger than Arbitrum's.
2. SOL outperformed ARB by ~200% in recent months.
3. SOL is 6x away from its ATH, & ARB by only 60%.

Solana is way bigger & outperformed Arbitrum, but only because it went down so much due to FTX.

I've spent the whole weekend, researching everything there is to know about the @zksync airdrop.

The ZkSync airdrop was the one I spent the most energy on. So I asked myself:

How sure can we be that there will be an airdrop for ZkSync?

That was when I decided to do proper research in order to find out everything we know about the airdrop.

The first question I wanted to answer was:

Will there be a token for ZkSync?

I collected all the information that I could find and quickly came to an answer:

I’m absolutely sure that there will be a token.

I’ve watched many ZkSync employees confirm that there will be a token [1].

By the way, I will link you all of my sources in the tweets below. The [1] that you just saw means that the source of this information can be found in the first tweet below.

Token commitments to insiders:

Multiple people from ZkSync (Alex Gluchowski, Steve Newcomb, Marco Cora) confirmed that there will be a token.

They mentioned that ⅓ of the tokens are reserved for insiders. [2]

This sounds like they have already made a commitment to allocate tokens to key stakeholders.

Why would they not launch a token?

A token is the best way to monetize your project and get the support of relevant people

A Token for the Zk Porter:

So, I’m collecting every bit of information about the airdrop that I could find & by coincidence I stumbled upon something interesting: The ZkPorter.

The ZkPorter is the off-chain Data availability layer for ZkSync.
As you know ZkSync validates transactions off-chain in order to scale better. That's what the ZkPorter is for.

Anyway, after learning about the ZkPorter, I watched the Bankless interview with Alex Gluchowski from ZkSync and he said something along the lines of [1]:

“We need a token because that's how the ZkPorter will be validated”

and

“The ZkPorter is our main priority after the mainnet launch.”

And there you have it.

This confirms that there will be a token for ZkSync.

Alright, so we know that there will be a token, but my next question was even harder to answer:

When will they launch the ZkSync Token?

So, I’m still collecting information, watching videos & reading articles and I start to notice something:

They often mention that they are “patient” & have a lot of time to do “things right” [2].

Initially, I thought: Okay, it might still take a while until they launch a token.

However, after thinking again I remember what they said about the ZkPorter:

“The ZkPorter is our main priority after the mainnet launch.” [1]

Hm.. They launched their mainnet 7 months ago.

A bit later I came across rumors that the ZkPorter is already being tested in closed beta.

So, is the token closer than we think?

Okay, let's take a step back.

We know that there will be a token & that it might be closer than we think.

The next question that I have is:

Can we be sure that they will do an airdrop?

After thinking for a bit, I quickly came to a conclusion:

I’m pretty sure that they will airdrop their tokens.

They mentioned multiple times:

If they decide to launch a token, they distribute ⅔ of the tokens to the community [1], [3].

Well, we already know that they will launch a token, so the airdrop is 99% certain.

This brought me to my last two questions:

“How big will the airdrop be?” & “How can we qualify for it?

How big will the airdrop be?

This is a tricky question. Up to this point, my research involved reading content from official ZkSync accounts & employees.

But to answer the question about the airdrop size, I had to start thinking more analytically.

So, I came up with three factors that have to be considered.

• Amount of airdropped tokens
• Price of a token
• Amount of eligible users

Amount of airdrop tokens:

They committed to distributing 2/3 of the tokens to the community.

This is the largest number I have ever seen. Arbitrum & Optimism airdropped significantly fewer tokens.

Value of token:

ZkSync right now has less TVL than Arbitrum & Optimism when they did their airdrop. Therefore the marketcap of ZkSync could be lower than the other two.

Amount of Elidible users:

ZkSync has roughly 2 times the daily active users that Arbitrum had at the time of their airdrop. We don’t know how many of those will excluded due to their Sybill filtering.

I conclude that the ZkSync airdrop will be similar in size to Arbitrum & Optimism.

ZkSync has less TVL & more Users, but they airdrop a larger proportion of their tokens.

This brings me to my last question:

What criteria to qualify for the airdrop?

When asked the question how to distribute their tokens, they mentioned that they liked the way that Optimism did their airdrop.

These interviews have been done before the Arbitrum airdrop.

It makes sense to take a close look at how both of these networks did their airdrop.

I expect ZkSync to take inspiration, but also introduce something creative, like combining the two approaches.

My gut tells me they might do multiple airdrops instead of one large airdrop.
