Holy Recovery, Batman!
Gotta be one of the strongest recoveries we've seen to date. Back from the grave.
URL and source in 🧵
The site, which is good (although a little to heavy on the monetization for my taste) is
Google can crawl 100s of links on a page, but should you use that many? Google tells SEOs almost yearly not to overdo internal linking...
Martin Splitt: "so use them reasonably-- not too little,
not too many"
But links are good, right? What's the worst that could happen? 🧵1/1. Diluted PageRank - 1000 individual links will pass far less authority through each than 10
2. Diluted Anchor Text - When you link to the same URL more than once from the same page, research shows Google won't count every anchor
Google released a free Simple ML add-on for Sheets, and it's kind of... glorious?
Simple Machine Learning no code required
Here it's used on Search Console data to identify over/under-achieving URLs based on Impressions + Position data
5 minutes and outlier URLs easily spotted
Side note: URLs that get more/fewer clicks than expected are typically caused by SERP features you can't control
Other times, you can spot Title Tag or Structured Data opportunities to help increase your CTR

The 7-Day Quick Start Guide to SEO+Cheat Sheet:

You've probably sent people to @Moz's Beginner's Guide to SEO—which is AWESOME...
...but can be heavy on theory/light on action
So I worked with Moz to include the *complete* Quick Start Guide to SEO in the opening chapter
This pretty excellent study via @semrush seems to have caused confusion, so let's summarize:
• 45% of Google searches resulted in an organic website visit (desktop)
• 10% clicked a Google property
• 25% didn't click anything
• 18% refined their search
• 2% clicked Ads
🧵1/4
Importantly, the Semrush study *also* counts Google Keyword Change (query refinement) as a type of "Zero-Click"
This means total Zero-Click searches are much higher than the 25% that a few folks are interpreting...
To be fair, the chart doesn't include this nugget 🧵2/4

Internal Links for SEO. They're important, but are you getting the most bang for your buck?
Internal Links can pass many signals to Google. Two of the most critical:
1) PageRank - "Popularity" 2) Anchor Text - "Relevance"
Many SEOs/tools focus on #1, and not enough on #2 🧵1/5
We studied 23 million internal links across 1800 websites (tiny compared to Google's index)
We found that the raw NUMBER of internal links to a page correlated with higher traffic, but only to a point
Google's Search Console "Crawl Stats" report is probably the most underrated tool you're not using
Probably because Google hid the reports in the interface
To find it, you need to navigate to "Settings" > Crawl Stats
A few tips🧵1/6
Google improved this report A LOT from past years
While not perfect, it can provide a ton of information about how Google crawls your site
Helpful for SEO auditing—because, while not a replacement—many of us don't have access to crawl logs 🧵2/6
