What is Wangiri fraud?

It entails receiving missed calls from international numbers you don’t recognise on a mobile/fixed-line phone. The fraudsters generating the calls hope that their expensive international numbers will be called back so that they can profit.
The term Wangiri is Japanese for “one (ring) and cut.” And as the name would imply, it’s a genuinely international scam, with victims distributed across the world. Warnings about the scam have appeared in Kenyan, the U.K., Canadian, Irish, and New Zealand media, among others.
One Ring to Rule Them All

Wangiri Scam relies upon ones innate curiosity. Many people would instinctively return a missed call, even from a mysterious international number. And the repetitive nature of the scam adds to the intrigue and pressure.

How to spot a fake Website.

Browse the website: take a couple of minutes to double-check the site. Check that the website lists any contact information. Reputable and legitimate companies will always list ways to get in touch with them.
Double-check the domain name: a lot of fraudulent websites will use a domain name that references a well-known brand or product name. But won't be the official website.

You should also be cautious of domains that end in .net or .org, as they are rarely used for online...

Fraudulent Apps.

#CyberSafely #CyberSecurity #InfoSec

One would expect that apps that are purchased or downloaded from official market places are legitimate and non-malicious. But that's not always the case.
A new study by a security research firm reveals that thousands of apps in top app stores are running a highly sophisticated and potentially harmful advertising fraud. By downloading apps from unknown developers, one essentially gives them free reign to do whatever...
... they want with his/her phone.

The most common form of these applications are fake loan apps.

They request for deposits via short codes promising customers that they will get instant loans. They also charge a certain amount of money to ‘register’ or process the said loans.
