No one, & I do mean no one, expected the level of violent response we are getting from the universities. Especially when ignoring the protests & giving small ineffectual concession wouldve worked in a lot of places. Instead, we are seeing the most violent possible response from them. Why?

Why are our systems of power so trigger happy right now? What conditions made this the go-to response?

I think it's a few things.

Tactics Note: Locking arms is not, was not, & will not ever be an effective way to stop mass arrest by itself.

That's not to say it doesn't have use. But if you want to stop a kettle you have some options I will go over below.
