THE IMPORTANCE OF BLACK BIPARTISANSHIP: A THREAD. Cleveland, Ohio is a case study & a prime example of the negative impact of black people not having a significant presence in both parties. Up until the 1970s & 80s, Cleveland had a history of prominent black Republicans 1/ People like William O. Walker, former Cleveland councilman and the founder of the Call & Post, Cleveland’s Black Newspaper (died 1981) 2/

🧵I have to share this with yall. I’m with my mother & I go into the gas station and I see this real old white man walk in. Walking slow and gingerly. I happen to look up at his hat and it said “World War 2 veteran”. I’m like wow. Normally when I see people with veteran hats on I thank them for their service. And I was going to do that here. But I got distracted, laughing and joking with another customer and I forgot. So as I get back in my car, I see the guy walk back out, slowly, to pump his gas. I pull back around to tell him thank you 4 his service

Quick 🧵on gas prices cause I’m seeing people saying (and believing) some bullsh*t. Oil is a futures market. In other words, the price of oil today is largely dependent upon what the available supply is predicted to be. So when you do things like cancel pipelines 1/ add more regulations to make it harder to drill, put a moratorium on new refineries, get some current refineries to retrofit itself to become “bio refineries”, and openly, clearly and repeatedly say that your goal is to end fossil fuels 2/

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Police Chief Wayne Drummond had a press conference today about the increase of gun violence in the city. The mayor said he was “angry”. Well I’m angry too. I’m angry with the mayor passing the buck & making excuses. 1/ Chief Drummond is a good & genuine man. When I was racially profiled by the police, it was Drummond who my family went to & he was very helpful. He’s one of the good guys. Here he is getting emotional about a 10 year old who was accidentally shot & killed by the child’s aunt. 2/

THREAD: 20 songs to combat the “rap is only degrading” narrative. These songs are the true essence of hip-hop. There’s a lot of people running their mouths right now about something they know nothing about. So learn about it and teach them too. 1/ 1. Since people are in their feelings about Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, it only feels right that we start off with them. My favorite song by the both of them. Lil Ghetto Boy.

In 2020 @SenatorTimScott authored a police reform bill that even The Root said would lead to less black ppl dying. DC Dems used the filibuster 2 block it because they didn’t want the GOP getting credit 4 this in an election year. Don’t talk 2 me about the filibuster Remember what they said? They said that it was an existential problem, a threat to the survival of black people everywhere. And when they had an opportunity to do something about it, they punted for pure political purposes. 2/

Thread/ Ok so let’s talk about the highways. I see a lot of people reacting to the charge that it’s racism, and I probably wouldn’t phrase it like that, but there is some history to this. And I think it impacts you differently depending on where you live /1 In Cleveland and other formerly industrial cities like it, the way the highway was built had a huge impact on the development (or lack thereof) of the city. It exacerbated a clown car of bad decisions by government that contributed to increasing poverty in these cities /2
