Now that we’ve had a few hours to digest the ICC arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, it’s time to think about the political implications. A long 🧵... nytimes.com/live/2023/03/1… Let’s start with the obvious: As long as Putin holds onto power, he’s probably safe. The ICC doesn’t have a police force. Don’t expect to see him in a jail cell at The Hague anytime soon.

A 🧵 on why you should care about US-ICC relations: The US has been wary of the #ICC for a long time. Its basic fear is that the ICC will initiate biased investigations that target members of the American military scattered around the world. Given America’s global military presence, its troops are uniquely exposed.
