One of the reasons that mankind had such a disease ridden life before the 20th Century was The Industrial Revolution, which pulled millions of people off of the land. The majority of our families had worked for centuries in the open unpolluted air. They had a tough rural life But they also had a very well developed immune system against all of the normal illnesses, though when a big event like bubonic plague arrived, no immune system on earth was going to handle it. One advantage of rural life was scattered population and contagion could not thrive.

I wish I could claim credit for this, it reflects my thinking 100%, but it is from C J Hopkins, an essayist and playright and it has to do with where we are RIGHT NOW, in between the old and whatever it is they have in store for us.
There are lessons to be learned here..... There is nothing subtle about this process. Decommissioning one reality and replacing it with another is a brutal business. Societies grow accustomed to the realities. We do not surrender them willingly or easily.
