The Greens have certainly chosen an 'interesting' candidate for Lewisham North. This was the constituency I contested for Greens in 2001, 2005 and 2010 and was also councillor there for 12 years. The current Green candidate takes a rather different approach from me I must say 1/6
First there are his well-publicised comments appearing to glorify the Hamas attacks on October 7th. While the Green Party leadership has opposed Israel's bombardment of Gaza, it has also strongly condemned the Hamas attacks. Not Mr Pugh though. 2/6

Looks like I've been suspended from the Green Party.
This post is what they are not happy about. I knew at the time it would put my 37-year membership of the party in jeopardy but I was not going to sit back and stay silent while leading members of the Green Party went out of their way to trash the findings of the Cass Review.

That article about having books in the house being smug and middle class attracted a lot of comment and derision. But it comes from a long line of "Love something? This is why it is bad" school of journalism. Thread: 1. Enjoyed watching Fleagbag? Here's why it's only for posh people. theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2…

I was recruited into Green politics by a climate-denying conspiracy theorist. A thread.
When I first joined the Green Party as a 20yo back in the 1980s the very first person I spoke to was an affable chap called Justin Walker. [1]
I rang him up about getting involved locally in the north-west and he was the contact. Posh, ex-military and charmingly bonkers, Justin reminded me of an eccentric version of Michael Palin. On that first phone call he enthusiastically welcomed me. [2]

When the Thatcher and Major governments began unravelling I felt a sense of exhilaration at the chaos that was unfolding that would bring these premierships to an end. For good or ill you could at least see the writing on the wall and sense the direction of travel politically.
I don't feel that way about the current chaos at all. I certainly don't feel at all confident that a better Brexit deal would emerge under a new Tory Prime Minister.

Thread - Why I spoke out on gender: I felt compelled to speak out when @Womans_Place_UK were dismissed as a far-right hate group after @CarolineLucas agreed to a perfectly reasonable request to meet them and discuss their concerns.
Women like @ruthserwotka of WPUK are lifelong socialists, feminists and trade unionists. They are not far-right hate figures and just as there is now an open discussion about gender, sex and identity within other parts of the left there needs to be in @TheGreenParty, too.
