1/ How did the Secret Service and other law-enforcement miss the rooftop sniper who shot Donald Trump, injuring him slightly, and killing a bystander?

That's the No. 1 question for the after-action investigation. 2/ Outdoor rallies are inherently risky in a country where every 11th president has been assassinated and many more attempts have been made.

No American president has written in an open convertible since the JFK assassination in 1963.

1/ Boeing in disastrous decline with just 83 planes delivered in 1st Q v 130 last year, down a whopping 36%.
The latest includes 66 troubled Max 737 jets.
Airbus grew to 142 jets v 127, up 12%.

reuters.com/business/aeros… 2/ Boeing must purge finance experts on board, install aviation & safety engineers or slowly die.
Recalcitrant Boeing board says no, will pay CEO Dave Calhoun, a Jack Welch acolyte, $45m severance.

1/ Journalists need a new attitude, framing coverage in terms of the audience rather than the sources, as explained in my Columbia Journalism Review essay in the September/October 2008 issue Pg. 41.

archive.org/details/sim_co… 2/ Politics coverage needs to be about the stakes and issues, much less about the horse race and meaningless surveys.

Consider airline mergers. “Reports typically focus on the problems of the airlines whose owners want to raise fares by reducing competition.

1/ Cops taught to denigrate civilians, be "warriors," at 6-day Atlantic City training, @NYDailyNews reports.

@NJComptroller Kevin Walsh's auditors studied video of training for almost 1,000 cops, issued a detailed report

@radleybalko take note.

nydailynews.com/2023/12/06/new…
Image 2/ Audit quotes Dennis Benigno of police training company Street Cop wanting to be surrounded by women who “are not as wealthy and need to do things to make money.”
Wink & nod to cop-coerced sex?
Here is Walsh's report, to which Benigno says "meh" --

1/ Hundreds of journalists have interviewed me but none as biased & ignorant as the @FoxNews guy I met today.
His questions were based on false—ridiculously false—premises yet when I showed him indisputable facts, he persisted. 2/ “Johnny” no last name said he works for @JesseBWatters.

Johnny insisted. That America has record high inflation.

I lived through double digit inflation as high as 13.5%.

Our current rate is 3.7%.

Among the 20 major economies in the world that’s the lowest rate.

1 of 4/ Modern Monetary Theory works and our experience with the pandemic proves it, @axios concludes in a report by @EmilyRPeck and @MatthewPhillips.

@StephanieKelton - who I encouraged to translate an arcane idea into plain English - should be smiling. 2/ Axios also deals with the issue of inflation, which MMT says can be curtailed with tax increases if government spending exceeds the sum that can be productively put to use.

The rightwing critic below isn’t quoted on this method to adjust:

1/ Decades of legal corruption enabled by "private judges" exposed by @latimes.
While expose focuses on LA lawyer Tom Girardi, adding to the paper's 2021 investigation, it points to much broader corruption.
latimes.com/california/sto… 2/ In 1982 I told LAT Metro editor if he'd give me 90 days at Hall of Justice I'd come back with indictable conduct by judges.
Editor said no, saying it would be improper to go looking for corrupt judges, declared my idea offensive.

1/ 40 years ago tonight LAPD spied on my blind date with Jennifer Leonard. Chief Daryl Gates, who I was investigating for the @latimes, even critiqued our choice of champagne.

Gates thought he was intimidating me. Worst mistake of his career. 2/ Gates' words told me he really was running a massive political spying operation, as @ACLU and Coalition Against Police Abuse claimed.

I pursued LAPD spy stories relentlessly as well as bad shootings, chokeholds, corruption, faux "world-class policing" myth in the news.

4/ Fact is Billo often just makes stuff up, like Donald, and he is so antagonistic to facts that he couldn't hold a job on a small newspaper. billoreilly.com/b/Trumps-Taxes… 3/ Billo said I hate Trump. Also false. I'm on the record all over the place that I feel sorry for the man, who is deeply mentally ill and who has never known joy. Billo implies I don't know him when I've covered Donald for 31 years.

1/ Eye-popping profits on @Apple services -- 63-cents per $1 -- are ~7 times BigBiz average, @IRS data shows. Indicates Apple’s tying iPhone/iMac/iTunes/etc violates anti-tying laws. At minimum, it’s price gouging, aka Tim Cook putting his thumb in customers’ eyes. 2/ @Apple’s outrageous gross profit margins, reported by @CNBC, are juiced by deceptive trade-in policies, slow-to-never fixed software, awful customer service, many other exploitive policies.

1/ If witnesses can show Kavanaugh took part in multiple gang rapes/trains of men with drunk/drugged women, as @MichaelAvenatti says on @Maddow we have a much bigger problem than a flawed SCOTUS nominee. 2/ We also need to know how Kavanaugh got past 6 @FBI background checks; what @SenateGOP & especially @SenMajLdr McConnell knew or suspected in trying to rush nomination through; what @GOP staffers knew; and much more requiring another special prosecutor and...
