Today I wrote about why the new COVID-19 variants are such a threat, and will make exponential growth that much worse:

(Paywalled)

qpbriefing.com/2021/01/29/inc… Two hypothetical scenarios were laid out by @imgrund that help illustrate the difference between the strains:

Scenario A: 1,000 daily cases of the "normal" variant, at a reproductive value of 0.9, would turn into 500 daily cases after one month.

You may recall last night the PCs tried, in an urgent push, to extend CMOH Dr. David Williams' contract by six months; House Leader Paul Calandra wanted to sit until 3:30 a.m. to do so.

Today, the auditor general released a scathing indictment of Williams' role thus far. AG Bonnie Lysyk found that Williams has been subordinate to the government, that the Health Command Table is bloated and led by people who aren't health experts, and that the government hasn't always followed the expert advice it does get.

In a late-night debate in the legislature regarding extending CMOH Dr. David Williams' contract, PC MPP Robin Martin takes issue with the NDP's desire for a multi-party committee to examine it.

"I think this is cancel culture," she says, stretching the meaning of the term. Government House Leader Paul Calandra is looking to run out the clock on debate to extend Williams' contract tonight. He moved to debate until 3:30 a.m., and then 2 a.m., both of which were shot down (required unanimous consent).

In addition to the high debt and deficit left by the Liberals, Moody's also pointed to the government's unwillingness to increase revenue.

Day three of the campaign sees the NDP head to the northern debate in Parry Sound, and then onto Sudbury, where they won the seat in 2014 only to lose it in a controversial by-election. The NDP are fairly strong in the north, where they hold five seats. Due to riding changes more northern seats are up for grabs this election, but the PCs have high hopes to make inroads in the region.
