One piece of the cruelty that she brings up that often gets missed is how the USA redefines migrant and refugee families as “fake families” or “human traffickers”. While these migrants are coming from communities and cultures that include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc as being core parts of the familia, DHS only considers spouses and direct, biological children as “family”.
