A fight is brewing in South Louisiana over @airproducts proposal to build a $4.5 billion “Clean Energy Complex” that would manufacture so-called blue hydrogen. desmog.com/2023/02/17/air… Hydrogen is “blue” if carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is used to offset some of the CO2 emitted in manufacturing. Big Oil, world leaders, and others are touting hydrogen and CCS as “clean,” safe, proven to work, and crucial to solving the climate crisis.

DEBUNK: Spiked columnist Ella Whelan made misleading claims about North Sea oil & renewable energy on a recent BBC Question Time.

Here is the evidence for why she’s wrong - and Spiked’s record of climate science denial & fossil fuel funding. 🧵 #DeBunk Image Whelan suggested the UK government invest in “new exploration of North Sea oil” to grow the economy.

But @IEA says new oil projects would threaten climate targets to limit warming to 1.5C.

DEBUNK: Author Matt Ridley made several misleading claims in The Times & Daily Mail about climate change impacts.

Here’s the evidence for why he’s wrong - and more on his record of downplaying climate change.🧵 1/ #DeBunk ImageImage Matt Ridley claimed in The Times that walruses are “thriving” & dismissed as “nonsense” the idea climate change affects walrus migration.

In fact, walruses are classed “vulnerable” on the @IUCN red list of threatened species due to melting sea ice.

This year we’ve seen a wave of false claims from opponents of climate action exploiting the Ukraine war & energy crisis to push fossil fuels.

Here are the top 6 bogus climate claims of 2022 - & the evidence for why they're wrong.🧵 #DeBunk Image 1. Net Zero
Climate deniers pushed the false idea that net zero policies caused the energy crisis

In fact, it's caused by the high wholesale price of gas, hiked by the Ukraine war.
Timely climate action could’ve saved households billions. @DrSimEvans

DEBUNK: Lord David Frost has joined the Global Warming Policy Foundation as a trustee during COP27. He claims it gives an “objective view” of climate change.

In fact, GWPF is a climate science denial group with a pro-fossil fuel agenda. Here's the evidence: 🧵1/ #DeBunk Lord Frost was welcomed to GWPF by founder & honourary president Lord Nigel Lawson.

During COP26, Lawson declared “global warming is not a problem”.
He also defended fossil fuels, & falsely claimed CO2's “principal effect” is the growth of plants

Here’s the evidence for why she’s wrong - and more on her record of rejecting climate science.
🧵 1/ #DeBunk Image Hartley-Brewer’s claim @IPCC_CH’s climate models have been “exposed as complete nonsense” is false.

In fact, climate models have accurately predicted global temperature rises. Observed warming tracks the forecasts:

Now, NW Natural has withdrawn its application “in order to conduct additional stakeholder outreach" desmog.com/2022/10/17/nw-… The environmental and social justice groups cited a long list of problems with hydrogen blending, starting with the fact that it is an extremely expensive way to try to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

EXCLUSIVE: A 2015 slideshow from FTI Consulting offers a rare glimpse at the services PR firms market to fossil fuel companies – like “discrediting” scientific studies and “debunking” documentaries. @SharonKellyEsq reports 🧵 desmog.com/2022/02/07/fti… FTI: “We understand how the oil and gas sector works—we’ve worked in it, studied it, defended it and impacted the policy that regulates it. We have been instrumental players in the industry’s highest profile business issues, regulatory hearings, legal disputes and arbitration.”
