In the year of 1220

A wolf began causing havoc outside the city walls of Gubbio.

At first, it was just attacking livestock, and then progressed into killing humans.

It got the point where it was so bad, that few ever dared venture outside the gates alone.

St. Francis got word of this, and decided enough was enough. So he, with a crowd of witnesses following him.. confronted the wolf.

The wolf spotted St. Francis and began to sprint towards him with his jaw open.

The wolf began walking gently towards the friar and gently laid his furry head into the hands of St. Francis.

He gave the wolf a deal:

The wolf extended his paw and shook on it.

And since that day, the Wolf of Gubbio became a loved member of the community who never again took a life.

He kept his promise. And when he died, received a proper burial upon which the whole town was saddened.
