Agree! Both thematic and mildly aspirational ecocriticism are pervasive problems. I’d add two more points. (1) Guillory reads ecocriticism as an inter discipline not firmly grounded in English. BUT seems to me most of the theory swerve in English & the humanities from the 60s on—which I hope we can agree was profound and influential and remains so—was deeply interdisciplinary.
