Found a 1987 newspaper in the ceiling of this Kmart with an article about serial killer Donald Harvey, who had 37 confirmed kills and 87 suspected killings over the course of 17 years while working as a hospital orderly in Kentucky and Ohio. 🧵 Image Harvey also poisoned his lover, Carl Hoeweler, Hoeweler's father, and two of his neighbors with arsenic. Hoeweler's father and one of the neighbors died.
He used a variety of ways to kill his victims, including several different poisons and more inventive methods. Image

On March 2, 2000, Dr Larry Ford shot and killed himself. When police searched his house, they found a cache of illegal firearms and explosives, as well as unsecured hazardous biological agents. Tim Gunn attempted suicide in 1970 when he was 17 and while at a summer school his parents had sent him to in CT. His spook father and CIA library founding mother drove over 5 hours to admit him to a Yale psychiatric hospital. Yale, famously, was home to MKULTRA experiments. 🧵 Image The first person Gunn came out of the closet to was his psychiatrist at Yale.

On March 21, 1977, Mary Gillispie of Circleville, Ohio received an anonymous and threatening letter in her mailbox. Accusing her of having an affair and demanding she stop, this is considered the first of hundreds of letters that would be written by the Circleville writer. 🧵

Image The letter accused Mary, a bus driver, of having an affair with Gordon Massie, the Superintendent of schools in her area.
Mary ignored the first letter and also the second letter she received 8 days later, thinking they were a prank. Nothing could be further from the truth.

On August 13, 1997, a man calling himself "Clay" called into the Howard Stern Show. A self proclaimed serial killer, Clay had called to confess to over a dozen killings of prostitutes and to chat it up with Howard. Was there any truth to what he was claiming? 🧵 Image The call lasted for around 17 minutes. Throughout, Clay discussed the nature of his murders. He claimed the first murder occurred when he was 16. For decades now, the so called Toynbee Tiles have puzzled and intrigued people from all over the world. Their cryptic messages and unknown origin make them one of my personal favorite unsolved mysteries. 🧵 They read:

Many of them also feature smaller subtext that varies from tile to tile, though the original message remains the same.
The tiles are said to be made of layers of linoleum with asphalt crack filling compound.

At 11:42am on the morning of June 2, 1976, investigative reporter Don Bolles climbed into his white Datsun for the last time. As he was backing out of his parking spot at the Clarendon Hotel in Phoenix Arizona, a bomb that had been planted under his car exploded. 🧵 As he lay dying next to his car, Lonnie Reed, a local refrigeration tech working nearby, was the first on the scene. Reed used his belt as a tourniquet on one of his shattered legs. Bolles' last words to Reed were "Adamson. Emprise. The Mafia. They finally got me."

On March 22, 1977, Charles Morgan disappeared after dropping his daughters off at school. Three days later, he showed up at his house with plastic handcuffs on his wrists and ankle, unable to speak, and handed his wife, Ruth, a note claiming he had been abducted and tortured.🧵 In addition to being tortured, Morgan also claimed that a hallucinogenic drug had been "painted" on his throat, and that he would go insane or die if he ingested it.
