Chances are good that in one month all school-aged kids will be eligible for the COVID vaccine. This is GREAT!!!

So now we need a 30-day plan to keep our kids safe and in school. Even with rising cases in MN (largely in kids) we can do this!!! And here’s how: 😷 🧵1/5 We need a full-court press to get this under control in the next 30 days.

@GovTimWalz must immediately use his emergency powers to mandate that ALL schools follow @CDCgov and @mnhealth recommendations.

▪️Masks
▪️Notification
▪️Quarantine
▪️Testing
▪️Staff vaccination 2/5

Once again last night in MN there were no ICU beds. My colleagues working in rural or community ERs are caring for intubated patients for more than 30 hours before finding a hospital that can accept a transfer. The C4 system that coordinates our state in finding critical care beds literally stopped taking calls bc there was nothing they could do. Imagine having a stroke or heart attack that could be survived with proper care but not being able to get it.

Systems achieve the results they are designed for. Our vaccine roll out is designed for speed and as we have seen leaves BIPOC and immigrant communities behind.

A very short 🧵 about MN’s 3/7 rule and why it is a problem. 1/5 The 3/7 rule requires any clinic or pharmacy to use 90% of its vaccine within 3 days and 100% within 7. If they don’t, they don’t receive as much vaccine the next week. Also, these clinics don’t have advance knowledge of how much vaccine they will have week to week. 2/5

Dear Minnesota,
A thread about re-opening too soon:

When I discharge a patient from the hospital, we both know their illness isn’t over. They’re simply well enough to no longer need 24/7 nursing care or IV medicines. 1/8 When I send a patient home from the hospital, the goal is for them to stay home. Worst case scenario for me or them is to get worse at home and have to come back in. That is MY fault when it happens. 2/8
