This is my whole Twitter. I was raised by parents with an unshakable sense of right and wrong. Watching their moral certainty is enough to give me clear direction for a lifetime.

Marriage is a total life change in a traditional society. The proverbial moving out of your father’s house to your husband’s is an all-encompassing transition. Full adulthood is in some ways conditioned on marriage status. Independence is possible only after marriage. One’s opinion matters more when married, one’s place in any situation is more secure when married. A woman’s name, title, everything. Changed. Men too, in many ways.

I haven’t written anything of any length since my blog, I think, which ended in summer of 2020. Started December 2018. Used to write four days a week with Friday for reactions and updates to previous posts. 18 months. Hard to feel like something is ready to share, even though I used to do it all the time.

This is probably my favorite painting. The woman is the baby’s nanny, not the mother. It’s by Renoir. Image @astudholme2

The thing that draws me to Trump the most is the gang of enormous horrific monsters that surface to get him.
It’s so terrifying that people and institutions exist like that in the US that maybe Trump is more of a choice than I realized. They dogged him his entire term. Didn’t even let him have his genuine accomplishments. They easily and frequently engaged in full blown lying, like the tear gas story.

It says about the generation that left Egypt חמושים עלו One explanation is that one-fifth of the Jewish people left; four fifths didn’t. I think this is what is unique about our generation. The Holocaust is the clearest example of this idea of חמושים The שארית הפלטה the remnant is all that is left.

Here’s the truth:
I have not decanted.
I do not decant.
I will not decant. If you decant,
-none of my business
-not my place to judge
-if it makes you happy, it makes me happy that you’re happy.

So grateful to G-d I finally found inspiration for a party I need to make soon. I couldn’t think of anything. It’s usually so my thing. Under so much pressure to do something “special,” but the definition of a party is special. Each one must be unique. Anyway once I started I was like obviously… and versions of things I did before.

In the 80’s, when I was a kid, women who covered their hair wore a colorful triangle with foam padding sewn into the top. It wasn’t pretty. The sheitels were plastic, stiff, and fake looking. Today, a frum woman can cover her hair myriad ways. Israeli scarves, smooth and flowing well-fitted sheitels, beanies and caps and falls and pre-tieds and so many beautiful options.

This is fabulous. 🌟 Three points.
First: belief in the betterment of human life through scientific advancement helps individual Jews, this is how individual Jews overcame discrimination to work on key life-saving medicines etc. In addition to Israel as a country, like you say.

Once you start with the premise that no mother ought to have a baby that makes her struggle, that makes her feel overwhelmed, where does it end? Has any baby ever been born and a mother did not struggle, did not feel overwhelmed? Where is the line? How do we know that we aren’t moving the definition of struggling and overwhelm? That our standards aren’t getting stricter and more unrealistic? That we prioritize order and calm over new life?

On Mother’s Day.
Motherhood is an amazing gift. It utilizes talents and refines character, it brings purpose, it elevates everything.
But maybe the best motherhood isn’t motherhood. The advantages and joys of motherhood are so obvious and so fulfilling that maybe caring for one’s own children isn’t the pinnacle of showing appreciation for human life.

Blimi tweeting my screenshot was really a boost. I had believed her and Chochmat Nashim’s claims that my logical and articulate points required no response because they were busy working while I waste my time mothering. But it wasn’t about insufficient time. It was because they feel zero need to give relevant responses to claims respectfully and specifically made against their points.

I don’t know. 24 hours in a day. New baby, older siblings adjusting. I think it’s great if you can do that without taking from anything far more important. I wouldn’t leave a newborn to strength train. Eating protein sounds like it doesn’t take from anything but it does because postpartum nursing etc you can get really hungry and if you won’t eat something easy you will yell at everyone you love.

A word on the Bea Weber thread pile on agreeing that “frum women” are “so cringe.” You all took the fact that someone is different from you and turned into a mob sneering and mocking for silly reasons. When this happens to you, you say that there is no G-d, G-d is cruel, religious people should have their children taken away from them and the state should take over their schools.

I don’t mute much but putting human life in quotes is not ok.
If Terry Schiavo wanted to abort her baby, these peeps would claim that she ought to be able to because her life is more important than the baby’s. But then when Schiavo’s husband wanted her dead, they would think her life is expendable.

A little story. We made a birthday party for our 8 year old on Sunday. Someone else gave out invitations first so we made the party directly afterwards and wrote on the invitation that we will bring the children from the first party to our party. The 8 year old tells me in the car that they refuse to invite a certain child because they are not in their class.

I read a tweet about not pressuring other people to have more children because it’s not your business.
I firmly believe in minding your own business.
But in the comments, they talk about having children too close together, too many children, not the mom, talking about others “Live and let live” is a great idea in most cases with most things. That’s what America was culturally founded on.
