10 Lessons on Radio Usage for SHTF from the Chechen Wars 🧵 Image 1. “Chechens—shift frequencies during radio transmissions to avoid intercepts; Russians—continually scan all frequencies while retaining active ones already intercepted.”

"In addition to not using cryptography, they did not regularly change frequencies because of the logistics challenges of synchronizing the process among every unit. U.S. forces, by comparison, change their communications format every 24 hours."Image

Today is St. Crispin's Day! How the 1415 Battle of Agincourt may have shaped the right to bear arms that continues today. 🧵 Image The English were victorious today, due in large part to the prowess of the famed and feared English longbowmen. This historic win, famously memorialized by Shakespeare in Henry V, gave us the iconic “St. Crispin’s Day Speech” and the phrase “band of brothers.” Image

🧵 Trip alarms serve two purposes: an alert to you and a hindrance to your attacker; a good one can do both. Mechanical models are made that when tripped, spring a firing pin that detonates either a blank cartridge or primer. Electronic models can have motion detectors, actual trip wire pulls, and audio/visual alert modes.Image Low tech, you can get bells on a string/wire or put pebbles in a tin can. In Rhodesia, farmers used sections of coiled wire, not so much as a barrier or trip wire, but as an alarm system. The wire had cans with stones in them tied on so that when the wire was disturbed in the dark, the noise would alert the watchdogs who would then bark at the noise.Image

🧵You may need to face off with a riot or mob in a situation where lethal for is not permissible or advisable. Here are some considerations regarding riot/crowd control, some devices commercially available to the general public, and how they might be employed. Image "Just f---king shoot everybody," isn't a solution to every problem just because the police might not be a going concern any longer. Using force may not be the proper thing to do at that moment given the circumstances. One type of force may be better to use than another. This is not a decision to make reflexively or take lightly.Image

Why you should get a ham license
Short version: get the most basic license so you have a callsign to avoid problems with Sad Ham that don't want to help you. It will also annoy them if you get the basic "Technician" license and only care about the practical, not technical, aspects of their hobby.

Yes, I'm aware of the reservations people have about getting licensed and that's a personal decision.Image In an emergency, the last thing you need is an argument with some jerk who is all "OI, YOU GOTTA LOISENCE TO CALL FOR HELP?" Being able to go "KYJ3LLY needs assistance" beats an argument with someone who is angry that the disaster upset his weekly bowel movement discussion. Image

Some emerging lessons from Hurricane Helene 🧵, taken from various sources around the Internet. I'm taking notes because this very scenario could play out with an earthquake in SoCal.

1. Be disaster paranoid. The people who saw the weather reports, hit the ATM, gas station, and got groceries early fared the storm the easiest, assuming they didn't lose a house. He who panics early panics best.Image Radios are invaluable. Neighbors are talking on GMRS and FRS radios, but there aren't enough to go around. Consider stocking up on cheap bubble pack radios or Baofengs to give to neighbors. We get used to texting neighbors but that doesn't work if cells are down and sometimes you need to more than holler or walk down the street and knock. amzn.to/47TfzRH

(GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING) 🧵
In 1960s Africa, Katanga providence of the newly independent Congo broke away, supported secretly by former colonial master Belgium. Belgian mining interests also supported the separatist government to help preserve their profits in a mineral-rich land. In the civil war that ensued, white Belgian expatriates in Katanga suffered incredible atrocities. @Will_Tanner_1 The violence was explicitly racial and targeted Belgians, though intra-African tribal and ethnic violence was probably more widespread. What happened to the former colonial citizens of Katanga is utterly sickening and stoked the fears of white Africans across the continent. Image

🧵People from all walks of life and political persuasions seem to feel there is a social calamity in the offing. Speaking of a second civil war went from conspiracy theory talk to a mainstream fear in less than a decade. Image From guns to books, people have an increased interest in protecting themselves and their families. The average person who is less politically attuned is feeling economic pressure and seeing subtle day-to-day signs of a fraying society, such as an uptick in crime. Image

🧵 The West is, unfortunately, ripe for mass racial violence, genocide, and ethnic cleansing. Unlike the fall of Rhodesia, where the conflict was driven more by tribal divisions than purely racial ones, I believe that any large-scale civil conflict in the United States or across Western nations will be explicitly racial, characterized by genocide and ethnic cleansing.Image In the modern world, especially in the West, race is seen not just as a social or cultural identifier but as an existential marker. Skin color becomes the clearest distinction of "tribe," far surpassing language, nationality, or culture as the primary way people categorize themselves and others. It’s deeply ingrained in the "us versus them" mentality.Image

Suburban & theft cartel thread 🧵
Okay, so the story is about organized crime and a rogue travel agency, but the risk info is in the details:

"The suspects they arrested were foreign nationals, mostly from Chile, in the United States on short-term tourist visas. They targeted homes that backed up to open space, breaking in through sliding glass doors."

American rural properties are woefully prepared for our own Rhodesian style Bush war. 🧵

A review of rural property security, thanks to the good people of Redacted, USA (although someone will say in the comments. Note: photographer sucks and she will be fired. Image Rhodesian farmers were super isolated in a lot of cases and upgraded their properties as the Bush War raged on. Terrorist tactics were to drive them off the land, not so much to capture people/property, etc. Native Americans targeted settlers and pioneers directly and even in the olden days rural American security sucks.Image

One thing notably absent from Rhodesia's fall and the transition to black-led Zimbabwe was a large-scale anti-white genocide. Unlike what we saw during the Congo Crisis, where Europeans faced brutal violence, Zimbabweans did not go on a killing spree against whites during or after the Bush War (Chimurenga).Image I believe this has much to do with how the black population in Zimbabwe saw race in a different construct than Europeans do. In European conflicts, race is often viewed as a sharp dividing line, where one group dehumanizes the other, almost as if they are entirely different species.Image

SHTF Lesson's from Rhodesia's Bush War (and how it applies to you)

One thing that struck me about white Rhodesians' account of the '70s Bush War against black communist guerillas is how and blasé they seemed. They took it all in stride, though this might just be the British stiff upper lip.donshift.com/blog/shtf-less…Image Maybe the intervening years have softened memories, but one would think that living thru terrorism and a guerilla war, often on civilians, would be much more frightening. Was it just a British attitude? Was it frontier stoicism? Maybe the type to live as whites in Africa were just intrepid, calm types.Image

Surviving the UAS (Drone) Threat on the Ground

One cannot continue business as usual upon sighting an unknown or enemy drone. You must assume that you've have been spotted even if the sighting was brief. The drone may have been undetected for some time. Image If drones are in operation in an area, assume you are under observation at all times. The approach of an unknown drone must be treated as an indicator of a potential imminent attack. All survivability and camouflage precautions should be taken until the all-clear is given.

A proposal from over a decade ago is the 3-3-3 Radio Plan for SHTF Communications. In short, turn on your radio and listen for at least 3 minutes, on Channel 3, at the top of every third hour: 0000, 0300, 0600, 0900, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100. Image The idea is that prepper/survivalist minded folks will be listening and can help each other out. This partially addresses the issue of "what frequency do I tune to in an emergency?" Remember, only CB and Marine radios have standardized "help" channels (9/19 and 16).

What would physical and cyber attacks from Iran and their terrorist sleeper cells look like in the United States? (Not speculating on how the two countries get involved). Nukes and EMP are out. Iran knows that either is an instant death sentence. So far, the "crazy" countries that have obtained nukes do so for deterrence to avoid regime change, with North Korea being exhibit one, despite their bellicose rhetoric intended for internal consumption.

Conservatism is really an "eat me last" political stance. In short, when people have a lot to lose, they don't become guerillas or freedom fighters, content to just live life. They do not fight to maintain right wing values early on due to their nature.
Conservatives, as the name implies, preserve the status quo. Change is managed slowly so as not to cause disruption as conservatives typically do not like rapid, radical change. Perhaps you've heard that conservatives are just 30 years behind the left?

SHTF Lessons from Rhodesia

The 70s Rhodesian Bush War was a revolution led by Black guerillas against the white majority gov & population.

donshift.com/blog/shtf-less… Image It sucked to live on a rural farm. Many were far from settlements or cities and extremely isolated. This is important to note because living far away from everyone isn't always the solution. Isolated rural properties need large numbers of defenders.
