This election is a dangerous inflection point for the nation. But in particular for US Catholics & @USCCB who consistently seems to release statements in support of migrants, against discrimination, w/o ever NAMING why these statements are needed. A thread/ 1
In the wake of baseless and racist attacks on Haitian immigrants in Ohio created & pushed by #TrumpVance2024 & the Ohio Bishops released a statement without once NAMING who is pushing the lies /2americamagazine.org/politics-socie…

As a single, childless, woman in my forties with two cats and a registered Democrat, my mere existence seems to bother JD Vance quite a bit. (I am also a college prof🤯). Beyond the obvious insult, as a Catholic theologian, I want to note how dangerous Vance's position is. /1
Vance's view of society is one which values women & their contribution to society based on childbirth. Despite seeming to exempt out those who try but cannot have children, Vance is a 21st century version of patriarchy in which women w/o children are useless or dangerous. /2

Please get vaccinated & embrace moral humility: a brief thread in exhaustion & exacerbation...
In a perfect world, we would be able to avoid complex moral complicity in injustice...but even without a pandemic we do not live in such a world. This is why at his first interview, when @Pontifex was asked who he was - said I am a sinner. It wasn't merely a personal humility /2

Food for thought: whether they agree or disagree, in 10yrs of teaching, I have never ever had a Catholic student unaware of church teaching on abortion. I regularly have students unaware of teaching on migrants & poverty @USCCB
Almost every mass-going student recounts homilies on abortion. Almost none have heard a homily on welcoming refugees or against structural racism prior to college. 🤷♀️ faithful are not confused about abortion @USCCB but are deeply confused abt what priority of life & dignity means

Why does it matter that there is no biblical evidence that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute? A brief thread...(bc it has nothing to do w/ sex or prostitutes) /1 1. Mary Magdalene was key faithful disciple, the first person to see the Risen Christ & yet huge % of Catholics are merely taught “repentant prostitute.” It is an intentional diminishing of her role in early church by fitting her into the virgin/whore complex. /2
