Statement on the Chris Day case from The Learn Not Blame team @TheDA_UK
It has been almost 10 years since Dr Chris Day raised serious patient safety concerns over poor staffing and supervision on an Intensive Care Unit in South East London.
His case makes its final appearance before a judge on 20 June, & witnesses include former Health Secretary The Rt Hon Jeremey Hunt & lawyer Sir Norman Lamb.
The Doctors’ Association U.K. fully support Dr Day’s courageous mission to challenge these systemic failures
Appeals don’t always right wrongs unfortunately BUT we hope this will be successful and in the meantime there needs to be a full review of the circumstances of her referral @gmcuk
In addition this also requires a whole systems review of the circumstances of the allegations made as although we don’t have all the details the opportunity to learn and to #StopExcessReferralOfIMGs is paramount in order to ensure that they continue to have the confidence to work
