xG is possibly the most misunderstood & misused stat in Football Twitter
A huge section overestimates it & thinks it can be used everywhere
Another huge section underestimates it & doesn't believe in it's use at all
It's important to understand limits of xG
CC - @BeGriffis
xG works best when you have a big data sample.
Use of xG for a single shot & single game is good for banter only & should not be used for serious analysis.

I receive multiple DMs like this
I thought it will be interesting to provide a general Idea
1st question is - do you want to be a hobbyist or do you want to make this a career?
You need to seriously think about this
The approach would differ significantly
🧵
If you want to make this a career choice then the important things to learn - 1. python or R programming language. 2. Data science concepts
Otherwise, if you want to remain hobbyist, knowledge of tableau software is sufficient.

Few weeks back I did an opposition analysis using data for 1st time.
It was totally new territory for me. I asked the coaching team what they want and based on that discussion, I presented some slides with help of video analyst. Thankfully, coaching team was happy with it.

I am unfortunately not allowed to share the details in public. So, I have done the next best thing.
I have used the upcoming match between @KAAGent vs @skrapid as an example.
I have created some similar viz that I created for my opposition analysis.
This is pretty basic.
