I love Soc of Edu literature on class and HE, but it seems to begin with barriers to entry & 'end' with graduation. Discussions on the professions are included @SamFriedmanSoc & @Daniel_Laurison & @drlouiseashley are fab examples.
But research on working-class academics (WCA) 1/ tends to sit within WC studies(a fascinating field) but it means that the literature on what happens to those WP students (typically WC, also other barriers) who go onto HE as PhD students GTAs, Research Assts, Lecturers gets excluded/ignored.
