My fear with Nigeria is what I call the gestation problem: you cannot make a baby in 1 month by getting 9 women pregnant; certain destinations cannot be fast tracked.

Fixing the mindset of a people requires decades of education/social investment.

WE HAVE NOT BEGUN THAT PROCESS. This fuels my reluctant agreement with those who say that Nigeria might not "make it" within our lifetimes.

China began their present journey ostensibly in 1978. They "arrived" at prosperity sometime in the early-mid 2000s. Let's say 2008. That's 30 years running at full speed.

Several responders to this question say to approach her the same way as with any other woman. For the sake of context, I assume that the OP was referring to a specific type of woman: a highly-attractive, well-educated, and well-mannered woman, also known as a LADY.

Here it goes: There's an art to a gentleman's approach and there's an underlying mentality at play with this kind.

First, the mentality. Highly attractive women KNOW that they are highly attractive. They've spent years navigating the male gaze and have evolved a keen sense of perception. Image

They say hindsight is 20/20. You see more clearly in retrospect and all variables reveal themselves.

We can draw a lesson for Nigeria from two separate but devastating periods in history:

1 - Franco-German Enmity 1900s
2 - Indian Ocean Tsunami 2004

How are these connected? For the buildup to World War 2, historians agree on one thing: With or without Hitler, the War was inevitable.

Adolf Hitler embodied the deep resentment or "revanchism" that pervaded the Germany of his generation. And that resentment was aimed especially at someone: the French.

I saw something today that reminded me of a chilling advice for first-time visitors to Lagos:

IF SOMEONE CALLS YOU "THIEF" IN PUBLIC, CONFRONT THEM WITH A LOUDER AGGRESSIVE VOICE, UNTIL IT IS SAFE TO BREAK AWAY.

Deny in a 'gentle' voice & your life could end in 10 mins.

THREAD If it is safe to run away in the first instance of the opening "THIEF!", run like Usain Bolt and be sure they can't catch you!

In the eyes of a blood-thirsty Lagos mob, running makes you guilty, even if you're totally innocent.

At that point, it's too late to defend yourself.
