Y'all, I have the best flat tire story! It's gonna take a thread.
So I left work, picked up my wife from her work, and was headed home when I said, "what the hell is that noise?! Is that a flat tire?" My wife leaned out the window and confirmed it looked like a flat. 1/ We were only a few hundred yards from the Cumberland Farms gas station, so I pulled in.
Now, we're lesbians, so we know how to change a tire. We got it jacked up, got the lug nuts off, and I yanked on the tire. Nothing. Not even a hint of movement. I yanked some more. /2

My daughter had a friend. I'll call him 'Dave'. He was sweet. Sensitive. He sat her down one day not long after they met and said "I want you to know my whole story before you decide to be my friend". He'd transferred from his last college because he had sexually assaulted /1 someone there. He told her he's been in therapy now for several years. (Part of the terms to avoid prison). That he fully understands what he did is wrong and that he would understand and accept if she doesn't want to be his friend. /2

Gather around kids and I'll explain to you why incremental progress is a good thing.
So you voted in the last election and didn't get everything you voted for? Heck, maybe you've already voted in *two* elections and STILL haven't gotten what you voted for. (The notion that voting works like a vending machine is a subject that requires its own thread, but that is not this one)

"How do we fix this?"
First, let's get out of the way Things We Almost Certainly Cannot Do:
1. Expand the Court. Lovely idea. Really. But repubs won't support that and there aren't enough Dem votes.
2. Term limits for SCOTUS.
Nope. It's in the Constitution - they serve for 1/ life unless impeached.
3. Okay, impeach them, then! Again, nope. That requires the support of 2/3s of the Senate. See number 1 re: we don't have the votes.
4. "Biden should issue an EO!" Saying what? He's not an emporer and he shouldn't be. He has no power to simply overrule 2/

I should be asleep. But there's something on my mind and I'm just going to have to stay up for a bit while I respond to it. There's an exchange that's happens daily on here. It goes roughly like this:
Black woman says white woman needs to learn about racism.
White woman says "okay, answer my question about racism".
BW says "that's not my job".
WW says "then how am I supposed to learn?"
