1/ Driving around Washington yesterday filled me with sadness and anger. Thanks to a lying president and the violent movement he stoked, the city needed the protection of thousands of armed troops.
2/ The historic center of the city near the White House and the Capitol looked more like the Beirut I covered as a reporter in the midst of Lebanon’s civil war in mid-1980s than the capital of our democratic republic that I fell in love with when I first visited as a kid.
