1/4 Data on COVID-19 testing is crucial, but definitions are messy, sources are hard to check, and figures change quickly.

We are trying to build a scalable database. We have so far time series data for 26 countries with thorough source descriptions here: ourworldindata.org/covid-testing 2/4 We have made a checklist on the key comparability and data quality issues to keep in mind when collecting and using this data. These are the questions that we try to answer when we compile the data for each country.

1/ The question of whether COVID-19 deaths are accurately measured is something I’m trying to understand. This is not something I see discussed enough. Much research and analysis seems to assume deaths are accurately measured.

Here’s a thread with what I’ve found so far 👇 2/ There’s a general perception that deaths are measured more accurately than cases. While this is likely true, it doesn’t mean COVID-19 deaths are particularly well measured.

It’s not a straightforward question at all: Some factors may bias death counts up, others down.

Twitter hive mind: Im looking for good evidence on causal impact of loneliness on health! Here’s what I have so far. [1/6] [2/6] There are tons of observational studies showing loneliness predicts morbidity and mortality. Across people, and for individuals over time.

New datasource on a very important question! The V-DEM project (Varieties of Democracy, @vdeminstitute) measures democratic institutions across the world, with long-run series going back to 1789

It’s a team of more than 3,000 country experts based all over the world

Thread: 1/4 [2/4] They include variables measuring all sorts of things, from very granular political outcomes and processes, to aggregated indices that classify political regimes.
