Learning to divide the world has a great chapter on the history of museums and colonial knowledge production. This story reads like a textbook case and it sounds like they’re taking the problem seriously. Dismissing this as wokeness run smoke reads like anti-intellectualism to me Also this is misreported. The museum isn’t closing. They’re closing and potentially reworking the exhibit. Museums do that all the time and often for ethical reasons.

Yo @nytimes if you're going to interview a white supremacist like Ryan Balch can you please identify him as such and not credulously accept his claims without a solid google search on his internet behavior. Here's an article about Balch and the sort of violent white supremacist content he was publishing on Facebook prior to his involvement in this violent crime. skeptic.org.uk/2020/10/monste…

There’s just levels upon levels of badness here. A bunch of folks who seem to know nothing about how anti-Semitic conspiracy theories work praising James for some secret story that justified his series of terrible tweets. This is how in group bias opens the door to everything. James is a truly horrible person, even to his friends. It’s unbelievable to me that people stay in these abusive relationships with him, but I guess the fear of his wrath is especially strong.

CSJ is when "initiatives to address racism/sexism/inequality" make people mad. The madder they are, the more CSJ it is. Honestly, I just discussed this in a debate that should be coming out soon and the attempts at criteria on this front are hilarious. Also, the best part of the Counterweight website is who is missing from the About Us page.

This strikes me as a weird article for several reasons. First, Sokal suggests both that 40 years ago radical epistemologists rejected the notion of objective truth in a way never before seen, but also that their tradition has centuries old roots. 1/4
arcdigital.media/what-alternati… He claims that postmodern thought "threw the first stone" in the post truth era, but that it's not to blame for what the right has done with those post truth ideas. But, if he's right about PoMo, then it did play a significant role in the rise of the post truth right. 2/4

Since I'm trapped in this Schrodinger's presidential hellscape, where we both very clearly have a new president and yet do not have a new president, I'm gonna kill time by ranting about the current name for my pain:

Cheap Talk (n): Talk without cost for the speaker. 1/9 Cheap arises where a system makes it so that talk comes at little to no cost to the speaker, and it creates a variety of problems. Liberalism's free speech, internet spaces that allow for distance/anonymity, and structurally entrenched minority rule all contribute here. 2/9

James: Social Justice is a cult.

His cultists: So brilliant. Much insight.

Me: James’s cult meets all his own criteria of being a cult.

His cultists: Look at these weak ass arguments that SJWs make.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ Here, I'll explain it just so @OldKanart can be extra mad:
1. Initiation: "using doctrine to resolve core emotional vulnerability" Look at all the young angry white men in this using anti-wokeness to cover for their emotional vulnerability about their place in a changing world.

Friend of the pod @Reckoning_2020 just sent me with this. It appears Michael O'Fallon, a Christian Nationalist who promotes Covid conspiracy theories, is a Director/Officer at New Discourses LLC. This is way beyond the collaboration I discussed previously. opencorporates.com/companies/us_f… For folks not familiar with O'Fallon please listen to ETV150. This helps explain why the tone of New Discourses is so wildly catastrophizing and conspriacy riddled. It's now 100% uncontroversial to say New Discourses is managed by a right wing extremist. voidpod.com/podcasts/2020/…
