Ice Cube was the Black late 20th Century American version of the "angry young man," a working class/working poor youth whose oppositional, disaffected, & even nihilistic posture served as a protest against a rigidly stratified, hypocritical, and deeply unfair social structure...
That serves to keep him down, humiliate him, and prevent him from reaching his full potential....Here's the thing, Ice Cube is no longer young & never will be again. And his life circumstances, the circumstances that turned him into an angry young man in the first place, have...
Changed. He is no longer the young working class black youth being relentlessly harassed by the police; Ice Cube is now the wealthy/world famous music artist/actor/producer who probably signs autographs for cops. Ice Cube no longer says "F*ck the police"; he plays police in film

I have empathy for essential workers like grocery store workers who were repeatedly exposed to COVID19 by dumbass customers. I have empathy for the healthcare workers who sickened and died bc they did their jobs and cared for other sick/dying people. I feel empathy for those...
In prison and the concentration camps at the border; the government didn't do enough to protect them from the Coronavirus and, given their circumstances, were not in a position to help themselves. I feel empathy for children who caught the virus from adults who failed to protect
Them by either reopening schools too early or by refusing to take adequate precautions themselves. I feel empathy for people who lost their jobs and are now struggling with food/housing insecurity. I feel empathy for people who, isolating themselves out of concern for their own

A lot of ppl on this platform are talking about what they'll tweet about after "this" is over & how much better they'll feel when "things go back to normal." What they don't realize is that things will never be "normal" again because "this" will take a minimum of 20 yrs to fix...
Democratic backsliding has been a thing in the US for overly a quarter century now and Bush v. Gore, Citizens United, the gutting of the VRA (and the consequent voter suppression campaigns), and Mitch McConnell's extrajudicial theft of a SCOTUS seat only accelerated it...
We will have to play the long game, ladies and gentlemen. We have to play the long game because Vladimir Putin plays the long game and will keep playing it until he dies. We have to play the long game because Republicans, who have consistently put party over country play it.

Political theorists and political scientists have found several common traits among fascist leaders and fascist governments...
Rampant corruption/cronyism...Trump has daughter serving in an advisory role that she isn't qualified for. Trump didn't divest from his businesses & the Secret Service has to pay rent to him whenever Trump travels to his properties. DeJoy/Devos were rewarded w jobs after donation
Nationalism: Trump is obsessed with the American flag. One of his mottos on the campaign was "America First." He has defended Confederate state as important to American history.

Spoiled. Entitled. Naive. Selfish. Mis/disinformed. Cosplay socialists. White supremacist. These are all terms I've heard used to describe the "progressives" who are insisting that Biden "earn their vote" this November...
All of these criticisms are true. But I have come to believe that their talk of a "revolution" stems from a deep-seated desire to go down in the history books as ACTUAL revolutionaries...
They want to be the guys who forced King John to sign the Magna Carta. They want to be Martin Luther nailing the 95 theses to the church door. They want to be Maximillien Robespierre and all those angry peasants who stormed the Bastille...

Europeans were doing this thing where they would tie women to stools and dunk them into water. If the woman died, people took this as a sign that she WASN'T a witch. If she miraculously survived, they killed her for being a witch...
Europeans used to do this thing where they blamed Jews for poisoning wells, consuming the blood of Christian children, and killing Jesus to justify killing/torturing them. They did this AFTER walling them up into ghettos and discriminating against them...
Europeans used to this thing where they killed other Europeans over whether or not they accepted the idea that the Pope was God's representative on Earth. Hundreds of thousands of Europeans lost their lives during wars of religion...

Thanks for participating in my thought experiment. Some of you immediately guessed what I was getting at so I hid your replies from the others. (Sorry.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ)...For the others...
An explanation...
This was purely HYPOTHETICAL. This isn't actually happening to me. (BTW, thanx for all the advice. ๐Ÿ˜Š Now I know what to do if it DOES.) This was an analogy to US chattel slavery. My enslaved ancestors were required to perform tedious (often back-breaking) labor for no pay...

Mulitiple reasons why this is a bad idea...
First, the last impeachment did not result in removal from office. All those who push for a second impeachment are conveniently forgetting that the (GOP controlled) Senate voted to acquit. There is no reason to think that they would vote to convict this time around, especially...
Considering the fact that many of the GOPers up for reelection need Trump supporters to vote for their reelection...

I think they've watched too many "uplifting" movies about pre-Civil Rights racism...you know, that movie where the black character(s) always maintain their grace, dignity, and commitment to non-violence even when overtly racist white people shit on them every chance they get...
Then, after the black character(s) have spent 90-120 mins proving they deserve equality, the overtly racist white character(s) arbitrarily decides that the black person has "earned" their respect. And they often demonstrate this respect by (reluctantly) extending their hand...
Which the black character(s) never hesitate to shake. The music swells, subtitles which list the black character(s) subsequent achievements appear, the credits roll, and, if you're ripe for emotional manipulation, you wipe tears out of your eye...

For everyone surprised that Trump shitted on members of the military...don't be. For everyone who thinks he's banging nails in his political coffin by disparaging dead soldiers...don't count on it.

In fact, this may solidify his support.
You see, Trump is a fascist. He is supported by fascists. Fascism isn't about ideology--it's about naked power. Or, more accurately, the naked power to keep people "in their place."

What better way to demonstrate naked power than to slay the sacred cows and get away with it?
In a militaristic, jingoistic society like America, the military and the men and women who comprise it are our sacred cows. You can protest wars. You can criticize the politicians who authorized those wars but you can NEVER EVER EVER criticize the troops who fight those wars...

Just watched Black Panther. One word: wow!!!
While it is a superhero film, Black Panther made some very powerful political statements about the consequences of colonialism...I found it telling that a full-on civil war broke out not even a week after an "outsider" took the throne by force.
Another political statement: some people (W'Kabi in this instance) will align themselves with anyone who has power while others (Okoye) often find themselves shackled to a dictatorship due to an excessive deference to tradition and sense of duty.

Let's talk about the low-key white supremacy manifesting in the Democratic Party right now...
For the past few months, the Gingivitis Gang has been hyping you know who as a bastion of civil rights and feminist advocacy...never mind the fact that she who shall not be named doesn't actually have a history of this and nevermind that several other 2020 candidates did...
Yesterday, I spent all my time on this bird app arguing with self-identified Democrats about the Lincoln Project. Too many of their defenders buy into the "Democrats have poor messaging" and "Democrats can't get it together" and "someone has to fight Trump" talking points...

Once upon a time, the beasts and the birds had a war. The bat, who could fly but didn't have a beak or feathers, aligned himself with the beasts. The birds won an impressive series of battles so the bat decided that he was a bird afterall and switched sides...
The tide turned in favor of the beasts so the bat switched sides. When the birds regained the upper hand, the bat switched sides yet again. On it went until the beasts won. At the victory celebration, the bat showed up at the party, bragging...
"We won!" the bat said. The beasts said, "What do you mean 'we?' Every time, we had a problem, you aligned yourself with the birds."

Speaking of anti-trans bathroom bills...
In addition to being discriminatory and hateful, anti-trans bathroom bills are simply unenforceable.
In order to enforce those bills, govts would have to have citizens carrying around certified copies of their ORIGINAL birth certificates, documentation that a lot of people can't actually access. And, in tge digital age, having people carry birth certificates makes them more...

This is how I feel certain Democrats view POC (especially black) voters...

For all the white people who don't know the difference b/w "wage slaves" and ACTUAL slaves, a threadโฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธ
A "wage slave" is someone who is expected to perform tedious, even backbreaking labor for LOW PAY...
The key words in the previous sentence are "low pay" because actual slaves were not compensated for their labor. They were also subjected to corporal punishment which sometimes resulted in permanent disfigurements/disability, if the punishment didn't kill them...

There's text and subtext. "Text" is what people literally say. "Subtext" is what people really mean by what they say. That said, what was the subtext behind Kamala Harris' call for Warren to support her bid to get Donald Trump's Twitter account suspended?
What Kamala was really trying to do was get EW to express concern over Trump's stochastic terrorism, stochastic terrorism being the demonization of certain groups which incites violent acts...
