Smartest man on the planet: "There's a big problem here"

Autists: 😱😱 "Shit! We better figure out what he's talking about!"

Normies: "Elon is exaggerating. I'm much smarter than him and I don't see a problem"

No point explaining strategy to those who don't even SEE the game Stock price is a perfect example.

A lot of normies blamed Elon for recent stock prices. They don't seem to understand that stock price is not a problem for Tesla or Elon.

Interest in home electrifications is increasing.

HVAC contractors and consumers are going to get FUCKED!

The Loki in me is excited to watch... I asked our contractors what they see happening...

Jeff said:

They are going to experience what we are with homeowners upset temperatures aren’t keeping up, high(er) energy bills, and more comfort issues (including excessive humidity).

Expertise ≠ Intelligence

Some people I know think I'm really smart

I don't think so

Really smart people have great memories. My recall is weak at best.

Really smart people learn very quickly. I learn painfully slowly.

In areas I want to really understand, I do the work. it's becoming clear that confusing or conflating intelligence and expertise can be incredibly dangerous.

Over the past few years it's caused a huge amount of avoidable illness and lives on Holocaust scale.

A little political history

The palace meteorologist assured him that there was no chance of rain; so,the king and the queen went fishing.

On the way, he met a man with a fishing pole riding on a donkey, and he asked the man if the fish were biting. The fisherman said,

"Your Majesty, you should return to the palace. In just a short time I expect a huge rainstorm."

The king replied: "I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an educated and experienced professional.

HOMEOWNERS CARRY THE COST AND RISK OF BAD DECISIONS,
We think it's the contractors responsibility to have homeowners acknowledge assumption of risk when they make bad decisions
- a thread A big issue we've spent a lot of time thinking about is who is responsible for bad decisions?

After first principles analysis we've decided we would like that responsibility to lie with the person who MAKES the bad decision.

In our case, that's the homeowner.

Elon comments on Woke Mind Virus, THREAD:

Wokeness wants to make comedy illegal.

At its heart it is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful.

It basically gives mean people a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.

Load calcs without measured infiltration give homeowners a false sense of due diligence.

They are a sign of an ignorant and/or dishonest HVAC contractor.

CHANGE MY MIND If a load calc must be provided to meet a local ordinance and infiltration testing is not part of the requirement, do a load range assuming a very high infiltration number and a very low infiltration number.

If code doesn't require you to measure, it is asking you to guess.

Tesla FORMALLY notified me Saturday that there's a car waiting for me at Mount Kisco.

Mount Kisco is 350 mi from me. I first found out that this car had been built on Monday when I got a call from the carrier direct rep asking if I wanted the car shipped to me.

On 11/6/17 I attended a seminar: Pursuit & Discovery of Vehicle Electrification Markets presented by Mark Mathias, Director of Fuel Cell R&D at General Motors I was really impressed by the guys wisdom and perspective.

Our business fixes problem houses.

We provide education, diagnostics, comprehensive design, work scopes, and quality control/assurance.

We also track outcomes.

We always offer an Electrification path.

The greatest barrier to Electrification?... It is NOT the consumer.

We consulted with @drvox on his home renovation.

Anyone think he ran a gas line and committed his home to Fossil Fuels for the foreseeable future because he didn't WANT to electrify?

NFW....

We think Passiv is important aspirationally. Those who try to make it more are advocating for a world that overspends on EE.

You set your goals too low and achieve them, you don't know how far you could have gotten. For example, air sealing. Most set a goal and stop when they reach it

HVAC 2.0 requires 3 load calculations.

Current explanation of "3 loads": The first Manual J shows how much infiltration is needed to make your current equipment properly sized.

Energy Efficiency may once have been the cheapest resource, but more and more that is not holding true.

Our EE projects have 50-1000 year paybacks.

Solar typically has 6-20 year paybacks.

(Obvious yet?) So if solar cost $2-5 a watt,

And EE costs $10-100 a watt,

Once the Stacking Benefits of incremental energy efficiency are all harvested,

...putting additional money into Energy Efficiency instead of putting it into solar is arguably BAD for the environment.

RESIDENTIAL SOLAR HAS VERY LITTLE RESALE VALUE.

And it makes economic sense. There is no market mechanism to value the counterfactual. We talk to people who WISH this were not true, but wishes don't change facts.

Marketplaces find confidence in mathematics and comparables.

eBay is a simple example. If you ever want a starting point in determining value, check sold items.

I'm going to attempt to create a thread expressing the difference between market and government driven.

I have a Bolt, and a Tesla... Last winter Liz and I took the bolt to the Adirondacks (she had a role in Escape At Danemora). The trip up took us 12 hours instead of 6 because of the time spent charging.

We slept in a grocery store parking lot.
