You’ve probably noticed me tweeting similar articles on the subject recently. 1/4
theguardian.com/world/2020/apr… The reason is that I DO listen to EU nurses, doctors and home carers who have been telling me for a over month now that they are often working in terrible conditions, risking their lives and those of their loved ones at home because they’re not given the right equipment. 2/4

Imagine if a few years ago someone told you that EU citizens could be deported for failing to apply to stay in the UK. The idea that we had to ask to remain in our own home and risked becoming illegal if we failed to apply would’ve been unthinkable. With the Windrush scandal we realised this was already the case for many non-EU citizens. When I spoke of ‘deportations’ to my Italian friends I could see them shudder in disbelief and horror. Deportations in Britain in the 21st century? I couldn’t blame them

This electoral result has stirred up once again the xenophobes in the country. Many in our fb group @InLimboBrexit told us they were told to go back home. I have been insulted too last week. It’s no surprise after the PM told us “we’ve considered this our home for too long”. This has created only more hurt and divisions and requires a strong reflection. What kind of country do we want to build? This is our home too and this has got to stop!

I can’t bear anymore the lie of the UK having open borders. We never had open borders. We aren’t even in Schengen! No terrorist has come here thanks to FoM. Do you know instead that after Brexit Britain will exit Europol and will leave the European Arrest Warrant? Do you know the E Arrest Warrant facilitated the extradition of terrorist such as Hussain Omar who attempted to blow up a tube station in London in 2015? Brexit will reduce cooperation and security. There’s no evidence that FoM has had an impact of crime (check gov link)

The “toxic narrative” you speak about, @patel4witham, has only been created by those who decided that 3.6 m had to apply, not register, to stay in their own homes. After a lifetime here. 90-year-old people with dementia included, just to give an example. 1/7 A Settled Status without any physical proof. How would you feel if you had no document to show to employers, landlords, banks? Discrimination has already started. It’s become harder to rent or find a job for EU citizens. 2/7
