Individuals who repeated false info about Iraq’s WMDs & the necessity of regime change in Iraq continue to be respected members of the DC policy community.

Let’s take a moment to note that prominent institutions in DC also tried to memory hole their role in the push for war. 🧵 The Foundation for Defense of Democracies was the home base for numerous proponents of the Iraq War and it took INSTITUTIONAL positions in support of regime change in Iraq.

FDD attempted to erase any evidence of these statements but Archive.org has the receipts.

🧵A think tank (@jinsadc) dedicated to "US-Israeli security cooperation" published a report praising weapons sales as a linchpin of the Abraham Accords.

MISSING DETAIL: All but one of the authors WORK FOR WEAPONS FIRMS, a fact JINSA failed to disclose. responsiblestatecraft.org/2022/01/25/aut… Here's what the authors had to say about weapons sales promised by the Trump administration to controversial Gulf autocracies.

Some thoughts on Condoleeza Rice's WaPo oped. "The Afghan people didn’t choose the Taliban. They fought and died alongside us." [THREAD] washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/… First, the title. The Afghan people didn't choose "us" either. We invaded in 2002 when the author of the oped was [checks notes] NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER.

Here are some of the mainstream donor advised funds who contributed to Turning Point USA, a cosponsor of the protest that preceded the deadly attack on the Capitol.

They helped anonymize contributions for donors.

These numbers are just from each group's most recent tax filing. Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund (@FidelityChrtbl) contributed $557,411 to Turning Point USA in 2019.

Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard’s trip from EWR to TLV on a private plane is interesting.

The plane appears to have a Las Vegas Sands livery, the corporation controlled by the GOP’s and Trump’s biggest donor, Sheldon Adelson.

The photos appeared in Israel Hayom, owned by Adelson. For comparison, here’s a photo of one of the Sands Corporation’s planes.

Did the GOP’s biggest funder just loan one of his planes to a former U.S. Navy analyst who served 30 years in prison for spying on the U.S. for Israel?

Much of the Dem debates & ensuing punditry focuses on how candidates will "pay for" their policy proposals. But there's little discussion of the OPPORTUNITY COSTS of a $738bn Pentagon budget & $6.4 trillion War on Terror.

Let's examine them. [Thread] responsiblestatecraft.org/2019/12/18/the… The U.S. spent $6.4 trillion on the post-9/11 wars. Those funds could have paid off over one-quarter of the national debt.

Or they could have paid for over thirty-one percent of the estimated ten year cost of @ewarren's Medicare For All plan.

Yesterday’s @washingtonpost smear piece on @QuincyInst by @BrookingsInst fellow Jamie Kirchick has an interesting money-in-politics narrative buried inside. (And perhaps an undisclosed conflict of interest by the author.) <thread> washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/… Kirchick writes:

“Eli Clifton blames three Jewish billionaires for President Trump’s decision to exit the Iran nuclear deal.”

Two issues with that statement.

Interesting exchange.

As a former CAP employee (well before @kellymagsamen joined) I didn’t recall a deep seated commitment to standing up to authoritarianism abroad. Here are a few other concerning money-trail indicators other than the grant to AEI. 1/5 The UAE contributes “$500,000 to $999,999” per year. They are an authoritarian government with a poor human rights record and a key Saudi ally in the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Yemen.

Were they paying CAP to advance US national security interests or UAE interests? 2/5
