🧵There's a myth repeated by both the left and right that we don't have records of what Nazis destroyed in the book burnings. Historians know some but not all of the literature. Much of it discussed queer/trans issues. Here are some examples of what Nazis didn't want you to know:

Among the most impactful transgender books Nazis burned was Magnus Hirschfeld's Die Transvestiten. The book focused on the history and politics of transgender people. Thankfully, it was a bestseller and original copies existed outside Germany. transreads.org/dietransvestit…

🧵Tennessean trans man David Ryan transitioned in 1949, age 26. He became a pastor in 1955 while passing as cis and the outgoing preacher worked in AR & OK for years. These narratives don't often end well, but David successfully fought to live openly as a man! Here's his story: Image David was outed after his (accidental) 1961 bigamy arrest. He didn't legally divorce before marrying his next wife. He was far from the first trans man arrested for marrying. Yet, the courts did not know what to do with him. The judge dismissed his case after 4 months of jail.

Aleshia Brevard was a trailblazing Tennessean trans woman. She left home at 15 and quickly became a drag star in 1960. After performing her own surgery, she joined major Hollywood films and even became a Playboy model. I colorized this 1962 photo shortly after she transitioned. Aleshia in 1962, shortly af...Image Aleshia's book is insightful and uniquely hilarious. This woman should have done comedy because she was brilliant. She even had a great sense of humor over being forced to perform her own castration. You can read it at transreads.org/aleshiabrevard/ ImageImage

FAKE TRANS DOCUMENTARY:
🧵 Someone claiming to be working on a trans film, “It Takes a Village," reached out to me. After investigating, I discovered it's a front for far-right director @robbystarbuck. Don't respond to them. We don't need any more deceptively cut anti-trans films ImageImage This is how @MattWalshBlog tried to con me into What Is a Woman last year. Thankfully, exposing him helped other trans people back out of the project. Now @robbystarbuck is attempting something similar. These bigots can’t get interviews without lying to us Image

🧵 I've worked with far more de/retransitioners than you, Buck, and support wherever their personal path goes. I don't support the few grifters exploiting this for fame & money at the expense of trans care. Here's 5 studies showing the #1 reason for detransition is social stigma: 1. One of the most thorough studies on detransition comes from a UK clinic. Only 16 of 3398 patients detransitioned and of those, the vast majority were due to social factors. epath.eu/wp-content/upl…

I was colorizing trans photos and it reminded me of star athlete Mark Weston, who transitioned in 1936. It's as if he was erased from the history books. He was one of the world's top athletes and Britain's #1 women's shotputter for 6 years. His brother Harry was also trans! Mark and Harry transitioned around the same time in the 1930s. Instead of accusing them of harm or "grooming," the responses ranged from the curious to the dramatic. Nearly all papers respected Mark's pronouns. His medical treatment was even widely celebrated as a breakthrough.

🧵 Here’s your list of 10 major studies on motives for detransition. Every study found that most people de/retransition due to anti-trans sentiment, not because they regretted trans healthcare or weren’t trans. Detransition is extremely rare but these findings are consistent: A 2016-2017 survey of WPATH surgeons found only half had seen a patient that detransitioned. They estimated 62/~22,725 (0.3%) of patients expressed regret. Of these 58% detransitioned due to social stigma/medical reasons, only 42% for changed identity ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

🧵 Because the anti-trans trolls don't seem to know how to do a simple Google search, here's your master thread of ten studies showing the extremely high satisfaction rates for trans youth (6-24) who medically transition. Satisfaction rates were between 97.5% and 100%: One of the largest studies on trans youth followed 316 patients aged 11-20 while taking hormones. They found "youth presenting for medical treatment of gender dysphoria at earlier developmental stages [have] higher body esteem and life satisfaction." ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

In 1966, queer Tenderloin youth were tired of being arrested in “street sweeps.” Together, they held a “street sweep” protest of their own with the organization Vanguard. They cleaned up their neighborhood with brooms while picketing in one of the first pre-Stonewall gay protests Image The sweepers advocated for “the drug addicts, pillheads, teenage hustlers, lesbians, and homosexuals.” San Francisco’s government didn’t take care of their neighborhood and they were fed up. The protest gained 100s of new subscribers to Vanguard Magazine and many new volunteers. Image

With the moral panic over trans people and recent attacks on @keffals, I'd like to remind you of the Morgan Page Rule: "do not shit talk other trans people in public." @morganmpage came up with it after decades of observing trans conflicts that ultimately made things worse. I've admittedly been helped by the Morgan Page Rule countless times. Recently, when discussing sending hormones to people in need, I had folks reach out *privately* to express concern. If they said the same things in public, it's likely I'd be branded a "problematic" trans woman.

🧵: Vocabulary time! I want to introduce you to two Nazi terms, Jugendverführer and Jugendverderber: "seducer" and "corrupter" of youth (see: "groomer"). These stereotypes depicted a figure who lured young people into the "epidemic" of Weimer queer and trans communities. Image Conflating queer/trans with pedophilia helped Nazis rally support for their genocidal policies. In 1935, they changed existing German anti-sodomy law to make it illegal to even "act" queer (whatever that's supposed to mean). It was all in the name of protecting (Aryan) children. Image

In 1934-1936, trans brothers Mark and David Ferrow of Yarmouth, UK both transitioned at age 13 with full parental support. Mark medically transitioned first in 1939 at 17 and his brother soon followed. "Though we have been girls, we have both felt men at heart," Mark added. ImageImage Mark, always passionate about art, joined the Kirby Muxlue Players troupe as a writer and traveled throughout the UK. He later became friends with the Leicester mayor and painted her portrait in 1960. His David Gower painting is currently in the UK's National Portrait Gallery! ImageImageImage

Trans athletes have competed in the correct sports category for well over 100 years! This simple fact never gets enough attention. Here are 10 incredible historical examples of trans people playing for the right team. (1/12) ImageImageImage Agustin Rodriguez, also known as “La Reverte” joined other male matadors in 1908. Although most writing on him claims his transition was an attempt to evade the ban on women bullfighting, he changed his name and lived as a man for the rest of his life. He worked until the 1930's. Saw this ridiculous meme going around so here are 10 transmasc athletes with amazing stories! (1/12) Image I have to start with Schuyler Bailar (@sb_pinkmantaray), who became the first openly trans Divison I swimmer. He set men’s team records and helped them win 3 Ivy-League Championship rings! After graduating from Harvard in 2019, he now advocates for trans athletes around the world Image

So @MattWalshBlog's crew is trying to trick trans people into joining a fake documentary. His producers set up a whole front organization (@GenderUnityProj) and tried to recruit me into his next anti-trans documentary. Here's the wild story of how it went down (1/x): Image It started with an email from the “Gender Unity Project” a couple weeks ago. They claimed they were doing a film on the trans community and gave me names of well-known trans individuals and surgeons they had interviewed. It all seemed normal at first. Image
