My hometown of Naples is underwater. My dad had to flee his home in chest-deep water. High school peers are posting on Facebook asking for rescues, unable to reach 911. This is truly catastrophic; a storm that will change Southwest Florida forever. My family is safe. They don’t have power and very little cell service so updates are sparse. But they’re OK. Thank you everyone for the kind words. We now wait until morning to see just how much devastation there is.

Outside of Roxborough High School, where after a football scrimmage just before 5 p.m., as players went to get on the bus, someone pulled up in a car and shot four young players. A 14-year-old has died, police have said. This is preliminary and hope to have more information soon. It was a three-way scrimmage between three jv teams, and numerous shots rang out as boys left the field.

“We just started running. We ran all the way to the other side of the field,” said Justin Williams, a junior player for Boys Latin.

Dr. Ala Stanford of Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium said 1,000 people have been vaccinated so far. She said there are about 1,200 people in line and they have about 2,300 doses left — a total of 3,300 doses to give — so they are not at the point of needing to turn people away. She said every hour they’ll have someone count the people in line to confirm they have enough doses, and will let people know if there won’t be enough so that they don’t wait for hours to ultimately get turned away.

The line at the Liacouras Center for the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium’s 24-hour, walk-up vaccination site wraps around the building multiple times. There are over a thousand people waiting in snow and freezing cold. People who arrived at 9 a.m. have yet to get in. For reference, Aesha Morris, 43, a home health aid from Overbrook, arrived at 9 a.m. She started about where I circled, and now is just reaching the entrance steps. She hasn’t eaten because she doesn’t want to have to use the bathroom. “I’m not even hungry, I’m just cold.”

Data from a USPS court filing Wednesday morning paints a dire picture of Philly’s on-time mail ballot return on Election Day. But this data lacks context, & is likely not an accurate representation of the speed at which mail ballots are being returned. inquirer.com/politics/elect… TLDR: Mail ballots returned this week are bypassing the city’s processing center & are being manually sorted, postmarked, & immediately returned to BOE within the same day. This means ballots are scanned in, then never scanned out, since they are bypassing the rest of the system.

I’m bouncing around Bucks County this evening to talk to voters across this fascinating county. Hmu with all your voting celebrations, complaints, or anything else you think I need to know heading into the final 3 hours of polling. First stop: New Hope. Image All is quiet so far in New Hope, Pa. Lines were long this morning but not now. Every voter I’ve talked to from both sides said their candidate was an easy choice.

“I actually had more trouble deciding what soup to have for lunch today,” said Carl Bannwart. He voted for Biden. ImageImage

I’m in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood of Philadelphia, where police shot a Black man less than an hour ago. Witnesses say he had a knife but was not charging police. Numerous shell casings are in the street. Neighbors are irate, crying, yelling at police. The 27-year-old man died at the hospital, police said.

Neighborhoods across the Philadelphia region are experiencing significant delays in receiving their mail, with some residents going upwards of three weeks without packages and letters, leaving them without medication, paychecks, and bills. inquirer.com/news/philadelp… Valerie Rice, of Overbrook Park, said her mail only arrives once every two weeks. She receives medication for her autistic grandson through the mail, but now it doesn’t come. “I try to stay by him & pray for life that I have what I need to take care of him,” said Rice, 65.
