I’m at the airport going to LA and the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen just sat down on the floor next to me and not only has two books in his bag but he’s eating a whole ass steak burrito at 9am. Y’all I think I found my soulmate
Ok update: I just slide over closer to him because someone dropped their bag right next to me and he moved his stuff so I could move over more toward him. Omg I’m shaking and sweating. Thank god I actually wore something cute today instead of the sweatpants I had been in for days

Aye yo writers, readers, and book gremlins alike.
Curious about how traditionally published books are developed, sold, and marketed pre-pub?
Here's a little breakdown in what happens ~after~ the querying stage and before the debut, and some things that aren't common knowledge!
Submission/Pitch Letter:
Books really never leave the "pitching" stage. Querying writers pitch to agents, agents pitch to editors, editors pitch to sales, sales pitches to marketing and retailers, retailers pitch to readers. It's a constant evolution of the hook/tagline/synopsis

I know querying is really hard right now, and honestly so is being on submission, and even post editorial has had a ton of bumps.
I can't speak on behalf of everyone's experiences and journeys, but maybe I can talk through my own process as an agent and give some insight? 🧵
I see writers comparing what querying was like a few years ago vs. now, and while I don't have significant experiences to work off of in the past, I can say that I imagine it is wildly hard right now. I do think it is. I also think social media exposed what's always been there.

Hey #amquerying of all things fantasy, spooky, and speculative,
I love fantasy and want to rep a lot of it! This year alone I’ve gotten 1600 YA F queries. But I have been passing a lot recently & would love to talk about what stops me from falling in love w/a fantasy pitch a 🧵
Queries are so tricky and a total art form within themselves. But especially fantasy queries. Typically you aren’t just establishing stakes and character, but also world and magic systems. That said, sometimes I see fantasy authors struggling to OVER explain in queries

Okay, giving a behind the scenes look at agenting for a second, after having some experiences in which querying authors may have made some assumptions that aren’t representative of what really goes on. So here’s a snapshot of what it’s like on my end! 1/
While you query it can feel like the slowest process and if someone asks for a partial or full, you can rightfully be thrilled. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it will go faster now, in fact, it can go slower. Why agents might move slower with reading ranges for many reasons 2/
