I know that the story is a pastiche (or whatever it should be termed) of the Tom Wolfe essay. But that wasn't the comparison that really struck me.
I didn't realize it until earlier tonight, but what this story most reminded me of was Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut.
