In the 1960's, the left wing used Saul Alinski's book "Rules for Radicals" to great effect in their activism. One of those rules is to hold your opposition to their own principles. This has always been a devastating tactic, as its almost impossible to defend against. However, I believe the modern left has actually successfully developed a defence against that weapon.
