You know how I keep saying there is something simmering away under the surface in China, and that all the weirdness we've seen lately is evidence of it?

No, the US was not seeking to erase Japanese culture. And we did not do so. Where Japan went after the war and during reconstruction was up to them.

That they chose to continue the westernization which began with the Meiji Restoration was their choice. In the immediate aftermath of the War, MacArthur insisted on the retention of the Meiji Constitution until such time as the Japanese could form their own democratic constitution based on their own system.

This is a false narrative, though I believe Trohan believed it. The most important piece of evidence for the falsity of any overture from the Japanese government is the fact the majority of the Cabinet was still actively in favor of fighting as hard as they could.

Japan was killing an average of 3,350 civilians per day for the duration of the war.

The US killed 306 civilians per day for the duration of our time in the war. Curtis Lemay was planning these bombing raids this way because he was targeting Japanese industry. Japan had become reliant on cottage industry due to not having sufficient heavy industry capacity.
