Notorious because of "case 5," in which 70 of 108 crime labs falsely implicate an innocent suspect. /1 MIX13 is a follow-on to MIX05. Both were efforts to do in forensic science what is routinely done in clinical/medical context: interlaboratory comparisons. E.g., if you get a blood test at lab A, B, and C, will all three give you the same results? Important, obviously. /2
