An incomplete list of industries that have been caught manipulating science and clinical studies to downplay or hide safety issues: Cell phone/Big Tech, tobacco/e-cigs, sugar, vinyl chloride, pharmaceutical, asbestos, tanning beds, herbicide & insecticide, and the NFL.
Ways in which monied interests manipulate scientific studies:
- Hiding research w unfavorable results
-Funding studies with a "right to edit" clause
-Hiring firms from the "product defense industry" (yes, it's real) to deliver studies with the results they want

You know this scene in Wizard of Oz?
That's 100% asbestos being dropped on them. 😵💫 The first documented safety concern for asbestos was in 1897. First documented death 1906. Reports of death only grew from there. Insurance companies began declining coverage to asbestos workers.
The industry fought back furiously, hiring Dr AJ Lanza to discredit the reports. His study appeared in 1935, showing asbestos workers had few issues. What it didn't say was that, by design, it only studied newer workers, who'd only been handling asbestos a short amount of time.
