Brief 🧵 on strangulation and intimate partner violence (IPV) from a seminar I had the opportunity to attend today: Most importantly - there is NO SAFE WAY to strangle someone.

The American College of Emergency Physicians' policy statement on strangulation states "...strangulation, the act of neck compression in any context, can cause serious injuries and significant morbidity and mortality."

If you've been a feminist for any appreciable amount of time, you've met the men who feign outrage at any generalizations about their sex.

This is a sample of the comments I got after posting statistics on male behaviors.

They think they're very clever. They're not 🧵⬇️ First (and most obviously to anyone familiar), the racial disparity in crime statistics is NOWHERE NEAR the disparity we see for sex.

Even the most out-of-context/overblown statistics referenced by racists do not come CLOSE to the nigh-monopoly that men have on violent crime.

When you think about it, it's incredibly stupid that men online will complain about "being lonely" + jerk each other off in the replies about how "lonely" they all are but never think, hey, here's thousands of potential male friends!

It's because "lonely" means "horny." That's their big complaint, no matter how they try to disguise it w/ nicer language -- they feel that they are fundamentally robbed + deeply wronged as a class by the fact they don't get sex whenever they want it.

It is conceptualized best as a sexuality (can also be thought of as a paraphilia) that exists in some hetero males. I personally think that recognizing AGP is a *sexuality helps to explain many of the deeply-held feelings about it that you’ll encounter.

These examples (except when specifically indicated) were gathered by me from the subreddit /r/MTF within the past month (October 2022).
