The Church's most authoritative teaching on freedom of conscience was on religious liberty, but everyone should choose Catholicism as their religion. Thus, when Church says something is not generally mandatory does not imply she treats all options on the question equally. 1/4 So, this is true in most cases (likely not if only options grown on fetal cell lines): "No 1 can claim a 'Catholic' religious exemption; it does not exist. 1 can only appeal to individual conscience as a reason to reject vaccination." 2/4 @ChurchLifeND

Correct headline: 60 Democrat members of the House of Representatives decide to weaponize the Eucharist by trying to receive when it is clear following Church teaching (expressed in law in canons 915 & 916) says they should repent 1st or refrain from Communion. Historically, leaders who wnt against Catholic teaching were barred from Communion:
* Theodosius after the Massacre of Thessalonica.
* Henry IV for during the investiture controversy.
* Henry II for his involvement in St. Thomas Becket's death.
* Many more local cases too.

This poorly done graph attempting to show vaccines cause autism is the main figure in Dr. Theresa Deisher's paper. It is reason #1 I think we should not trust her as a Catholic vaccine expert. Her motive of ending the use of fetal cell lines is good, but the science is poor. 1/3 Deisher's next figure gives the numbers: she keeps 3 countries averaged for vaccination rate but varies which 1 or 2 of the 3 she uses for autism rate.

It doesn't make sense that a slight change in vaccination rates (87%-91%) would cause an ~9x increase in autism 2000-2007. 2/3

I'm reading #FratelliTutti (FT below) today and I will post some good lines here, then a blog post with a summary / key quotes. Hopefully, this is helpful "It is my desire that, in this our time, by acknowledging the dignity of each human person, we can contribute to the rebirth of a universal aspiration to fraternity. Fraternity between all men and women." -@Pontifex, Fratelli Tutti 8

If Roe vs. Wade was overturned, that would just mean that each state can make their own abortion law.

It would not mean abortion would be illegal: in many states, pro-life people would still face an uphill battle to stop legal killing of the unborn. There are many Americans who don't want abortion illegal in every case or only want it legal in cases or rape, incest or the mother's life in danger. Anyone holding such an opinion should favor overturning Roe so then more restrictive laws can be passed in your state.

Canadian inventor P. L. Robertson was the first to design a screw that could be mass produced beyond the standard flathead. However, some Brits burned him on licensing so he wouldn't license it to Ford for the Model T. Ford went with Phillips & the rest is history. Image This is one thing I get whenever I go to Canada. It's the only chocolate bar at 7-Eleven (or Mac's) worth the calories. Image

OCP used an image that appears contrary to Catholicism on its 2021 edition. Even if the angel is unnamed, when it's a Mormon artist & the iconography matches Moroni so clearly, anyone with a passing knowledge of Mormonism identifies it as Moroni. 1/3 Image The artist obviously knows the iconography of Moroni as another work of his is sold on his store as Moroni - but this work matches the Moroni iconography less than the image OCP used. 2/3

Canada's embrace of euthanasia is scary. This article points out some of the problems. I'll put the ones I think are biggest as a thread below /1
mercatornet.com/the-optics-are… Even though passed by taking about individual autonomy, this assisted suicide, less than seven of the 5,631 cases of medically assisted death in 2019 in Canada were assisted suicide & thus over 99.8% were euthanasia where the doctor kills the patient. /2

As states slowly approve various policies on assisted suicide or euthanasia & we approach a SCOTUS case (probably by 2030) trying to claim in as a right, we need to come out strongly against it. At the state level, I think it should be the top issue. One might think "Well, the person is choosing it." 1st, in practice where legal (Canada & Europe) were are many cases of pressuring people into it or euthanizing patients without clear consent. 2nd, insurance companies might not pay for some treatments as euthanasia is cheaper.

“The Catholic Church strongly supports vaccination & regards Catholics as having a prima facie duty to be vaccinated, not only for the sake of their own health but also out of solidarity with others, especially the most vulnerable.” -English Bishops explaining Catholic teaching "Avoidance of vaccination carries with it dangerous & potentially grave consequences for the most vulnerable in society, & we recognise the anxiety which this is causing to those most at risk." -English Bishops explaining that getting vaccinated is an act of charity

Part of what the rich legally possess often belongs to the poor by justice, & if the rich don't share, it is a sin against the 7th (8th) commandment.
This is Catholic teaching & it's based on natural law.
Here's the last 4 Popes (skipping John Paul I) concurring on this point. Image "Ponder the words of one of the sages of antiquity: 'Not to share one’s wealth with the poor is to steal from them and to take away their livelihood. It is not our own goods which we hold, but theirs'" (quoting St. John Chrysostom)

Taxing the rich to help the poor afford rent or food is the opposite of stealing. As morally resources well beyond need belong to those unable to afford basic needs, if the rich have well beyond what they need & others are starving, not giving the poor what's theirs is stealing This is a consequence of 7th commandment (8th for Protestants) which forbids taking what is justly someone else's. In a society well beyond subsistence like ours, every person is due to the necessities of life in justice.

Catholics, when you have condemnations of socialism or communism in Church documents, it's valuable to look at what the definition is as it is clear that some things Americans call socialist (universal health care or a broader social safety net) are well within Catholic teaching. On economics, Catholic social teaching is more of a fence outside of which one cannot go than an exact path. Among Catholics, there can be a wide variety of opinions but extremes on either end - which both lack respect for the human dignity of work - are prohibited.

I listened to the 2 segments: they were both civil discussions (a little talking over other) on issues where Catholics can legitimately prudentially disagree. I'm really wondering if Catholics are able to have civil discourse on issues with nuance. 1/3
