Ok. I will admit that I didn't see that twist coming: (Which is a good exemplar of why I find Golden Age science fiction annoying. It's just about the only utopic science fiction we have and it's just so full of stupid nonsense like telepathy. This could have been easily written in the 1930ies and copied in 1990s Star Trek ...)

I found some more details on the Hina sodium ion batteries and the E10X EV and its battery pack in which they are used. The pack (which doesn't seem to cool its 660 individual cells) needs 15 min to charge 30-80% and 20 min for 10-80%. finance.eastmoney.com/a/202302242645… Also, more details on the specs of the battery. Keep in mind that cycles mentioned are all 0-100%. As with lithium NMC, partial cycles lead to better longevity, especially if you stay below 100% charge.

If you are in academia and you want to do a techno-economic analysis: Get economists or people from industry involved.

I can't help it. This isn't the first paper from this group on sodium ion batteries and they keep getting even the very basics wrong. pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10… You can see all the problems in action here in this chart, if you look at negative active materials (anode), Electrolyte and the Binder/Carbon/Solvent part.

Something is very odd about this. Why should all of these be so much more expensive than for lithium? Image

If we have learned anything about Artemis today, it is that NASA doesn't take it serious. If there really was that feeling of a generational change in the agency, the ARTEMIS GENERATION, surely there would be a camera inside Orion? And HD video in more than 5 fps. Instead, we were looking blankly at mostly static 3d animations. No data to be seen. No video. Nothing. Occasionally getting an update "everything nominal", unless the crude analog audio system broke down.

The obvious truth is that nobody there gave a damn about #Artemis. Image

People paid billions for this. It's the most expensive rocket in the world and Nasa can neither provide a video feed from the rocket nor even good audio from mission control.

This was so terrible. Beyond words. Billions spent and then this. Now they are celebrating success, even though the upper stage hasn't even done its job yet and their Payload isn't on the way to the planned orbit.
