Benchmarks usually pit different UI frameworks against each other, focused on micro-perf stats like hydration, rendering speed, etc.
That misses the fact that most devs are using a higher-level web framework like Next.js or Astro, which brings its own costs to performance

Things I got wrong building @astrodotbuild: Pushing the team to invent our own components+markdown syntax instead of just using MDX from the start.
Turns out, @mdx_js is already pretty great... and building your own is much easier said than done.
We first thought that Astro islands & partial hydration would be impossible in MDX, but @n_moore recently cracked it.
You can now author MDX in Astro and still use components from any framework including non-JSX frameworks Vue and Svelte!

In the last 48 hours I've completely rewritten pika.dev under the hood. If all goes well you won't notice a thing, except a full 1+ second speed improvement on 3G / WPT.

So I have a confession: sometimes I go read r/the_donald (DJT subreddit) to see what's going on over there.
And what happened tonight was... strange.
Something to understand: they are usually VERY on brand. Pro-Trump, Pro-Moore, encouraging (or at least entertaining) dubious news, conspiracies, hate speech, etc.
Community self regulates this kind of content with ⬆️⬇️ votes.
