My daughters and I dyed some wool scarves with Western Jack O'Lantern mushrooms today! These were mushrooms I harvested from the oak in our backyard and then stored in the freezer. The process was pretty easy... 1/ First we scoured the wool and let it dry (no mordant necessary.) Then we added the chopped-up mushrooms to a pot with distilled water and let it simmer for a couple of hours. This is what the resulting dyebath looked like after straining. 2/

🔥ALWAYS COOK THE H*CK OUT OF MUSHROOMS.🔥 Raw or undercooked mushrooms - edible species - can make you violently, disgustingly ill. This cookbook advises eating raw morels in particular, which is a good way to end up spending 12 hours in a cold sweat doing unspeakable things to the toilet.
