Tonight’s #GOPDebate is taking place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library but the modern Republican platform has strayed from Reagan himself.

Unlike every GOP candidate for president, Reagan supported many commonsense gun safety laws.

Here’s a little history lesson. 🧵 Reagan was a gun owner and a survivor.

He campaigned for background checks on gun sales, pointing out that it doesn’t make sense to prohibit certain people from owning firearms if there’s nothing in place—background checks—to stop them from buying guns.

We now know the names of the victims killed in Allen, TX.

Kyu and Cindy Cho and their 3-year-old son James. Their 6-year-old was injured.

Aishwarya Thatikonda, 27. And Christian LaCour, 20.

Sisters Daniela and Sofia Mendoza, a 4th-grader and 2nd-grader. Their mom was injured. Korean-Americans Cindy and Kyu Cho went to the Allen outlet mall with their sons six-year-old William and three-year-old James.

Cindy, Kyu, and James were killed. William has been released from the ICU and is the only survivor of the family.

The Boulder gunman bought an AR-15 pistol days before opening fire.

An AR-15 pistol looks like an AR-15 rifle and shoots rounds like one too.

Short-barrel rifles are strictly regulated under the National Firearms Act because they're easy to conceal and can penetrate bullet proof vests worn by police.

But guess what? AR-15 pistols aren’t regulated under the NFA.
