Potentially Concerning DM Tips

Step 1.
When your party or out of danger and just waking up in a situation, when they start asking for ridiculous things just say yes even in passing. Have them roll and if they get low numbers still make what they wanted happen. Step 2. Minor concern over things being fulfilled
Step 3. Watch them test the waters and asking for more and more and getting it with no (seen) consequences.
Step 4. After so many wishes fulfilled and they asked for wild things, start making the opposite happen and DRASTICALLY

I want a Therionthrope shifting ability that isn't time sensitive. I want like
Normal Form: (No Change)
Shifted Form: Bonus to damage, bonus to speed, weakness to psychic & fire

That kinda vibe! The form gives advantages and disadvantages. Staying in it is a boon or a hindrance And honestly if you REALLY wanna play into it you can make it they only communicate through beast speak. Casting a spell in the form requires a con check of 10+Spell level

I'm starting a band around board games and TTRPGs. Each band member is a different die type D4-D20. We call the stage a dice tray (and sell signed five trays). Fans are NPCs or PCs. Oooo maybe familiars, who knows And honestly it doesn't have to use all of the die types because there are seven so it could be smaller than that and then if there is a guest or a company person they could be one of the fill in die

Story of a human who accepts vampirism so they can live long enough to properly raise the abandoned elven baby they found, knowing by the time they were a "teenager" the human would be reaching the end of their life although they made themselves a promise to protect this child. They read stories, rumors, and myths about it. Eventually they sought out vampires and captured some of their blood. This ritual engulfed the human, gifting them vampirism but without many of the same drawbacks like affected by the light although still needing blood.

I'm so bad at dressing up for Halloween... Like I put on cosplays and random outfits most days of the year so when Halloween rolls around it just feels like a time to watch everyone else do it and relax myself.
I spent like 20 minutes feeling compelled to dress up (cont) And then realized, I literally don't need to. I never dressed up for other people, I don't need the timing to get more people's attention, etc etc. So instead I decided to put on a white suit for fun and do a fun photoshoot while drinking chocolate wine 🍷🍫

Challenge!

Whenever referring to fantasy "races" say origin instead. Try it for a few days.

"What origin are they?"
"Oh they're elven origin!"

"It looks like they might be of half orcish origin"

"I feel like there's a mix of human and angelic origins in them" Personal preferences with Gabe 👍🏿

The definition of race has evolved many times over the years and is complex

Also the point of a challenge is that you can not do it so if you just want to comment to say no, I instead implore you to spend that time doing something productive 👍🏿

What publisher wants to back my idea of an opposite game to among us/werewolf style called Secret Santa.

(Undecided #) of the players are leaving/giving gifts while trying not to get caught by kids or parents and traveling to different homes. You "die" If you've been given a gift which means that you're character is happy and the gifts will be random or personalized with prompts to decide what it was. Kinda like an "Adjective Adjective Noun" selection

Let's go let's go let's go
This Friday, let's talk session tone, scope, and how building a story together (especially online) can be justice enjoyable without needing every twist and turn to be a surprise.

There's a reason you can enjoy watching stuff even if know how it ends I want you to actively think about that though. If you can rewatch a show or a movie or replay a game, it makes sense that you don't need to have everything be a secret with the story you all build. Knowing what happens in the middle, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the journey.

Storytime with a twist at the end!

Decided I needed to get out because my mind was just 😓 so I researched safe places and found a small nature park along a jogging path. I go explore and it's all pretty! Not to mention I only saw two other people! Perfect! ImageImageImage Explore a little more and then find out there's a little creek! It's so nice and still like there hasn't really been anyone else! There's been someone who's walked by on the path but no one else other than that! Image

In TTRPGs Do you think drawing a weapon should be an action spent during a turn or a free action?

To note: This does treat switching weapons as an action and they are already considered as having the weapon equipped.

This can reference any TTRPG but your general opinion? The person who already has their blade equipped and then draws their blade and sheaths it, should it be an action for them to draw it again?

Sneaky tricks for a TTRPG session.

Make traps that play off general color recognition but switched around
A device that while glowing Green, shocks anyone that moves
While Red they can move around freely
While Blur they can move but not from the space they're standing That should have said blue but blur is better

With that, the CMM is finished. All base classes are input, edited, and have art to go with them. Build your 5e characters without racial modifiers to stats but by using the class to determine bonuses instead, all while building a story.
gabejamesgames.itch.io/cmm ImageImageImageImage This has been a labor of love that hugely inspired a lot of new work. When I say I'm thankful I don't mean that lightly. The support has even inspired a lot of the new design work I've done for projects of mine that are unannounced (but will be soon, tweets already scheduled 😜)

Personal GM tips
No matter how much of a secret you want to keep your game, the plot twists and such that you want to have, you should establish with your party what type of game they want to play.
No there might not be a perfect mix but you can come together to make a make game And with this in mind you can also lead by telling your players what sort of game you would like to run. If the players know you want to have a semi-serious dungeon crawl then they'll know if that's the game for them or not, they'll also have an understanding of what you want!

I started putting my random mimic ideas inside of a document I have titled The Mimicreed I've seen a lot of good suggestion names. I also considered the Miminomicon But honestly keep them coming 😂

So remember when I talked about the whole mimic hearts thing? I started making more notes about it and I have a whole couple page thing that I'll be releasing on my game patreon later but let's dive into my vampire alternative.
Cw: blood mention When a creature becomes the host of a mimic heart, the vessel, the creature is already deceased (at least usually). There are exceptions but they're rare. The mimic heart functions almost in a vampiric way. We'll delve into exceptions another day.

I know I post a lot of chaotic ideas but let's be clear. I don't usually enact these ideas on the PCs unless
A. We established boundaries beforehand
B. We check in after the session
C. It is not a surplus of bad experiences for the PC they can't fight off
(not just one but ALL) Like the mimic eye, mimic weapon, turning creatures to vampire like.
NPCs? Hell yeah I'll do it all of em.
PCs? There's a checklist of comfort for all of that and drama in a story does not equal a fun time.

I remember the first time someone I didn't know told me they looked up to me. It was odd because my first thought was "Why, I haven't done enough?"
I've had to learn and train to instead see it isn't really about how much I've done but that they see what I'm trying to do. When someone says they're proud of you, consider that. I would ask why because I often doubted I've done enough for someone to be proud. Perspective is everything. I could easily be proud of others.

So all of the text is in! The CMM for 5th edition is updated with all of the classes now. From a small passion to a bigger project and I'm happy with it.
