Today @Astranis is introducing a revolutionary new satellite for high orbits.

We call it Omega.

It is pound-for-pound higher performance than any satellite on orbit today. First flight unit will be completed next year, with launches starting in 2026.Image At Astranis, we specialize in next-generation high orbit satellites.

Omega is a massive upgrade:
‣ 50 Gbps in a small form factor
‣ unprecedented flexibility on-orbit
‣ heavily vertically integrated
‣ designed to be produced at scale Image

The US Space Force just canceled a multibillion-dollar program for a GEO communications satellite. And it was the right call.

The future is coming too fast to keep sending infinite, responsibility-free dollars to the old defense primes. Image First, some context:

During World War 2, the military mobilized nearly the entire industrial capacity of the United States.

‣ Ford built B-24 Liberator bombers.
‣ Chrysler built M4 Sherman tanks.
‣ GM produced ammunition and artillery shells. Image

China is leading the world in space launches and no one is talking about it. 1/n Since 2018 China's military space programs have ramped up exponentially- and they're now at a launch a week. That is a crazy number of things being launched into space.

The United States is dangerously close to falling behind.
🧵 By its nature, advanced space technology almost always has national security implications. And tensions with our adversaries are ratcheting up, with space on the front lines.
