It would be really nice if interviewers just understood that being Asian American/BIPOC means that part of our identity infuses all our experiences *just like white ppl* & would adjust their questions accordingly. Let US take the lead on what we share abt race & our work.
Also hey if youβre gonna ask how being BIPOC impacts our work, why arenβt you asking white ppl the same? Bc it sure as fuck influences how theyβre treated & what they experience in Hollywood & other industries.

Thread. But bc I keep running into this pt in particular, this is *really* important to note esp as events/pubs are trying to create TOCs/line ups more reflective of their actual audiences. When you ask marginalized communities who they should invite? LISTEN. TO. US.
I can't tell you how many times I've been asked "who are BIPOC/marginalized folks we should invite?" & when I provide names, I hear "I'm sure they're great but I've never heard of them/they're not a big draw" & I want to yell "WHY ARE YOU WASTING MY TIME THEN?"
